With the potential demise of Stans well looked after coop \:\( I remember reading that both Barbz and Rog had developed some sort of guard to attempt to stop the aux belt hitting the cam belt, did these ever reach the stage of people having them installed?

If so have they been successful? I know that when it's time for the belts to be changed I will be enquiring about getting one fitted for peace of mind

Regards

Austin

I’ve got one – not had the belts jump to try it out though thankfully. Flea also has one and when he was getting belts jump on a regular basis it worked most of the time, but one time the belt still got into the cambelt so it’s not a 100% solution.

I think Kenno was offering to get them made up a while ago, but you needed a spare aux pulley to send to him and I’m not sure if he’d still be able to sort it out.

The concept though is to have a machined collar attached to the inner edge of the pulley with the correct profile to take up the gap between pulley and cambelt cover – if you happened to have access to an engine out of a car then I’d expect you could come up with something reasonably easily and get a machine shop to make you something up.

I would be interested in one too. My belt managed to shred itself, but I was lucky. Next time I might not be.

If not I am pretty handy on Lathes and Milling machines so I may be able to knock something up. ;\)

Yep I was getting these sorted on Barbz's behalf. I might still be able to get them done if there's enough spare pulleys floating about.

They are certainly better than nothing although they don't always stop a belt getting in as I find out with 20 bent valves earlier this year. I now have a full shield in place which should make it impossible for anything to foul the cambelt. That said, I haven't had an aux belt go for a while so it remains untested \:P

I would have liked to have seen that when I was over your way Leighton.

I'd be interested in something like this as I still have memories of the £1,100 fix after mine let go at the redline \:\(
