Sorry if this sounds thick but on the 20vt manifold tht thing tht slightly resembles a dv thats an external wastegate right?? . . . . . . what exactly is the difference of having one and not? sorry this is puzzling me!

Correct. That is externally wastegated. Advantages being faster wastegate response, potential for higher boost and better gas flow since its not going out through your exhaust.... Unless you've got a coop like JohnS 's i think itd be totally unnecessary on a coop, though i might be wrong.

the second manifold down in the pic looks better than the above i think. . Easy, PM flavuitti (sp?) on here, that's his Ebay store! cheers stan

You could get one irrespective of power just for the nice noise they make but its a lot of money! Compatible turbo, wastegate, screamer pipe... the list goes on!

not too keen on screamer pipes tbh. . . . on youtube to many videos of Chavvy cars with em! wouldnt want to let my coupe fall into this group (not dissing anyone who may have one by the way)

you do actualy get more power with ext. wastegate, due to less exhaust containimanion (sp) and the fact your are expelling the exhaust gases via a larger hole, but it's the fact of all the parts associated with it hence why manufacturers never both with it.

Chav?
No.
Luke its all about gases and how fast and best to get rid of it.For big power external wastegate is theway to go and its more benificial for the turbo and spool up times too and it also hepls to reduce pressure on the turbo too when you get off the gas.

Do is a dump valve chavy then in your opinion??
An external wastegate is the way to go for big power,if you want big power and fast gas flow and faster spool up times than its the way to go.
Also the external wastegate can be pukmbed back into the down pipe aswell, but using a scremer pipe or dumping the unused boost staight out of the system is the best method for better spooling time, better performance and also better turbo reliability.

I wasent really sure what a screamer sounded like...so after half hour on you tube listening to different ones...im sorry but they are chavvy. Im sure there wonderful for boost control but no thanks.

A screamer pipe is only when it dosen't recir back into the exhaust. External is far better that internal and it dosen't have to be venting. Look at the Audi UAD for example.

Chavvy or not they do serve a purpose but christ knows what you'd do when it came to routing it on a 20vt, room in the engine bays at a premium as it is!

the point of the tubular manifold is to be better than the standard manifold, there are people running standard manifolds up to and above 400bhp now, when you get close to that sort of power level and above the need for an external wastegate becomes more of a necessity rather than a luxury so you can make chavvy sounds, where that change over point is will change from setup to setup.
One fact remains and that is if you are up to the power levels that a tubular manifold is needed you will be either on or very close to the point of needing an external wastegate.
maybe some of you guys out there running over 400bhp can comfirm but having better boost control and a reduction in exhaust back pressure from running an external wastegate would help, especially at this sort of power level

Apologies for jumping in on the thread but of of the parts I have kicking around is a GT28R which has had the actuator removed as was going to be run with an external wastegate...
Is it worth going this route as I thought I'd be looking at max 340bhp with this turbo (as to be honest more realistically around 320bhp with the other mods). As fast as Lukes (when not poorly) would be around the ball park I'm looking for. I guess the chav in me is not bothered by DV or screamer pipe sound so no issue there...
My guess is the space issue under the bonnet is a big concern, also I guess the standard manifold would have to go to, or be modified so the external wastgate can fit... And yes I have the v band to fit the turbo too...
