I know i'll probably get lynched for asking this, but does anyone know whether there is a roof rack that can fit a coupe?

I'm planning to do a few trips to Cornwall and will need to carry two surfboards on the roof. I had some pad things from my previous car but they scratched its roof quite badly and I cant subject my coop to such abuse.

Looking at the design of the car it seems unlikely that a roofrack would be able to mount on to it anywhere.

The other option is to take my girlfriend's Golf 1.6! boo.

There was a roof rack available at launch as an accessory direct from Fiat. They very occasionally come up for sale on here or Ebay.

This question has been asked before so maybe a search will through up some info?

Yep the "Roof Bars" as they were called grip onto the roof lip where the doors close using a kind of base section. The base sections that the bars use, have a rubber base where they sit on the roof and extended towards the back of the car passed the doors.

The bars then bolt into the bases and sit across the roof to form a rack. I have a set but still use them for carrying my mountain bike (amongst other things). Very useful at times if there's no alternative. Got mine on eBay for about £60.

There's a picture of them fitted to the coop on the forum somewhere!

Here's a pic

All safe for up to 90mph

Since this pic, I've bought another rack for my son's bike and they both sit up there with no problem at all. Everyone should have one.

Depending on what you plan to use your roof rack to carry, i would advise to get a rack which uses suckers 4 little pads that attach really easiy and quickly and packs up into a shoe box size pack.

i have owned both types and use this for surfing quite frequently and trips to b&q etc. it can also benefit from fitting all cars.

The Fiat specific rack is good but i found it fidly and time consuming to fit and also had the tendancy to damage the paintwork \:\(

do a search on e-bay sure to be on there think mine came from California.

Aha, someone has beaten me to my niggling question about Roof bars or bike racks for my Coupe. Was getting to the stage where i was contemplating having to sell mine and buy something a little more 'practical'.....

As my question proves, i still haven't sold it yet, mostly because almost everything i've gone to look at has been absolutely shi....rubbish! Being nothing like the description in the ad!

So is there a specific place to get these or is it def an Ebay job??
