I was working today (26th - so no not xmas) on fitting the upgraded rear ARB and needed to empty the fuel tank first.

I fitting a 265lph pump about a year ago and to empty the tank decided the best way was to "live feed" the fuel pump, mate and I removed the line from the top of the pump and ran a 6mm line straight into a container

Have to say I was pretty concerned with the flow out of the 6mm line - I was expecting a garden hose on flat out type of thing, however it was just a small arc - maybe 30mm out of the end of the hose

I realise the injector holes are small but still this seems like very little fuel to feed up to 450bhp the pumps are rated to

Anyway - looks like I need to do a pump test to pump 10litres or similar but is that 255lph (like walbro) at 0 pressure? or is that at 3bar?

if it is at 0 pressure, should pump 4.25l per minute? (255/60) or about 2.10m for the 10 litres

Anyone done this? - did the fuel come out more of a jet

I am worried I could have got a "chinese copy" pump and need a bit of a benchmark for flow at 0 pressure

Cheers

not tested it, so cant help here Paul, but I'd have thought it should be pissed out at some serious rate.
BTW, how long did it take to empty the 10 lt of fuel anyway?

V.

I don't know if it helps Paul, but when i emptied my fuel tank, i was doing the same thing as you but was using a standard fuel pump, i managed to fill a jerry can (1 gallon) in about 2 minutes top, so would guess that is fine.

This may help too http://www.lightningmotorsports.com/images/walbro/walbro_chart.gif

Thanks Guys

Alexis - that chart shows 75GPH at 0 pressure - assuming that is US gallons thats 283 litres so 4.7 litre per minute

I will have to test it but V i would say I would say a litre was taking at least 30secs which seems slow. I did a google and the SARD 265LPH that you and I run don't seem to have the risk of fakes the Walbro's do

I'll do another test now I have the figures and see what it pumps

Anyother thought (as this is a higher flowing pump than the Walbro is there any chance it is actually draining the swirl pot? - I mean it looks like the fuel has to take quite a trip to even get into the swirl pot or any I looking at the pump assembly wrong?

After i did have a fuel failure i did serval test.

I did test my pump at 50 PSI(as it is rate they) and it did pump 325 LHP /60 5.4 litre per minute.

I did also test it at 30 psi cant remember my result, but of course it was higher.

Did you change the swirl pot bit in the tank or leave it OE?

What pump do you have in the tank?

thanks

My current setup is two walbro inside the tank(so yes i did change the original swirl). then i have a external swirl, where a bosch fuel pump 0580254044 to take it from they.

Well maybe that was my problem - there was no return as the pump was pumping straight into a container - so maybe it was pumping the swirl pot dry?

I think that may well be due to draining the swirl pot as well

If you drained the pot it would suck air and cavitate, make a lot of noise and you'd get air out the tube.

Do a test at pressure (return line) with lots of fuel in the tank. you only need to leave it going 15s or so.
