most common is evochip, but a lot now seem to be using a chip of dink on here which seems to have very good reviews!

paulinho for evochip
dink for dink chip (obviously laugh )

I have used a gtec1 on my 20VT and it was very good on my car and Im using GTEC2 and its OK... Very cheap and good tuning for a car...

I think you will also find paulinho is banned from the forum, so your best bet, is to contact Dink

Would a GTEC2 chip show any improvement over a GTEC1 on a near standard engine? I know that it benefits from further mods exhaust, air filter etc.

you really need a FMIC to have a GTEC2 as the ignition is advanced

definatly a DINK chip you will not be dissapionted and from standard his chip totally transforms the power delivery and drivability of a 16vt thumb

Might be a bit of hijack here, but it is on the same subject. Been considering a GTEC1, but have seen an evocars chip on ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/FIAT-Coupe-20V-Turbo-EVOCARS-chip-260HP-400NM_W0QQitemZ140292312505QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item140292312505&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1301%7C66%3A4%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A1%7C240%3A1318

What are the differences between the two chips, beraing in mind my car is largely standard. Will one be safer than the other?

Not aware of an Evocars chip for the 20VT. I would suggest that (reading between the lines) it may be 'extremely similar' to the gtech.

Put simply, put the Evo cars chip in and your performance will plummet. wink

Hell, if you manage to even FIT the chip in the slot, theres something wrong.

Lol, I realise that the evocars is usually for the 16v but I only read the advert. It does claim to be new chip for the 20v turbo. If there is no info on the performance or safety of this chip, I'll pass it by, no probs

Just checked his 16vt EVO cars chip. Its identical. Identical power figures, technical details, etc.

I wouldnt touch it.

Cheers truffle, I'll leave well alone and just go for the GTEC1. Thing is, I'm not one of those to go for the maximum power gains for the least money, I want to develop as opposed to bolt-on bodge. Was just thinking if there was a choice, one may be 'safer' than the other. Many thanks for the advice.

You could always get Flea to live-map it for you, all his prices are very reasonable. The only thing i would say is that (i would expect) he would be able to do little more then GrahamL managed with his GTEC1, its been around so long and is in so many coupes, i think its fair to say it's pretty safe.

The "safest" way would be to get a custom map, but also costs much more. As long as you get the fuelling checked with the GTEC you should be fine smile

I have been in touch with Flea re: live mapping, but have decided to wait for that until I have the money for FMIC, gt28rsr, SIP etc and then get it properly setup. Just looking for a bit of an extra tweak while it's at Motormech.

Been reading on here that the G-tech Chips give more advance. Does anyone know where in the rev range the advance is? If the boost is increased, the Volumetric Efficiency is increased, which then means less advance is required. This would mean that say from 3000-3500 revs onwards, less advance is required.
This is a genuine request, not a wind-up.

Andy - the problem with increasing the boost as a method of increasing VE is that cylinder pressure is increased, as is the amount of fuel required to be burnt. This means that greater advance is used to start the burn process slightly earlier

You're slightly correct in that an increase in VE can be countered by a slight reduction in advance, but only if you want to make the same power as you did before the VE increase. On the very safe assumption that nobody fits a G-Tec to produce the same power for less fuel, the sole purpose of the extra advance is to produce more power

Nigel
What about the problem of detonation by advancing?
Any boost increase, will increase VE anyway. With increased VE, Less advance is required to offset detonation. Higher the VE, more the power but with less advance.
All i can say then, the standard Fiat OE chip must be way too retarded.
We all want more power over standard, but not when the engine wants to detonate.. The G-tech chips seem stable enough, but it is often other matters that makes an engine let go.

the standard chip is mapped to cope with poor fuel, poor maintenance, high altitude and any number of adverse issues

There is a problem with det if you go too far with the advance, which is why the G-tec chips don't go too far
