Yup, it's a type of anodizing. So literally, you can have the whole car done in that....but then you'll need to use a scratch resistant clear finish.

We sub-contract out to a Platers in our business. IIRC, they do offer annodising, copper plate, chrome & silver plating- which we use.

Their finish is spot on, & I have seen pictures- hanging in the office of jobs done on motorcycle wheels, chrome bumpers etc, etc...

They will even annodise nuts & bolts for you.

I will be using them for the Scimitar once I get round to stripping it a bit more.

Worth a phone call at least.

Company is SMB Platers in Plymouth.

Cheers, Ben.

Right, so today I started with the plug cover!

DO NOT us oven pride (the one with the bag), it's striped all the silver off so I'm now stuck with a dark grey plug cover! frown Well at least it's nice and clean! smile

What should I do now? I want it to look standard!

Well, when you first posted, I nearly suggested Oven Pride, until I read the back and saw it wasn't suitable frown

Try a fine piece of sandpaper or some wire wool on the plug cover, it may shine up smile

Mario, I love what you did, it looks wow! But I'm trying to keep the original casting so wet and dry would smooth that off. I'm popping out to buy a stream cleaner!

Right I'm having a nightmare with this cleaning lark! I've soaked the rocker cover and plug cover! Coke, cillit bang, degreaser, alloy cleaner (not a strong one) and cleaned with fairy liquid, even went out and bought a steam cleaner (don't bother). Autosol cut it a bit but still not as clean as I would like it, at this rate i'll get the sandpaper out!

Anyone got anymore ideas how to get my rocker cover and plug cover looking like new? Ta, Mr C

They're not particularly shiny as new. If you want shiny then you'll need to sand it a bit or use a wire brush on it.

can you tell what the dirt is on it? it could be that the metal is stained? i think halfords do an engine cleaning/de greasing product. . .never used it just remember seeing it in there.

Brillo pads. Get genuine ones, not the cheapo versions. Also, Mr Muscle Oven Cleaner: follow the instructions carefully (ignoring the bit about not using on aluminium). Wear gloves, spray on, leave for 30mins, rinse under cold water and rub gently with the brillo pads.
