Was it the one you had planned to originally get? I was originally planning to get a sporty car in black or silver. Ended up with a porto blue Coupe- didn't expect that at all hahaha.

well ive always aways aways!!!! wanted a.................... 205 1.9 gti but after hearing horror stories from just gtis i went for a coupe. i would of never of thought of it but only a friend at work had one and i always liked it :-) after searching around and looking at colours i decided that there were 2 colours i DIDNT want! porto blue and scots green. and guess what! i ended up going to see both these colours and fell in love with them both! and i came home with a lovely scots green :-)
I still think of the 205 :-( just because it reminds me of when i was at school....one day. would have to be standard though

Black or silver was what i was after, also i wanted a LE.
When i was looking about 5 years ago all the LE's for sale were about £1500 more than a std 20vt but they had another 15k on the clocks as well.
So i ended up with a std silver 20vt then fitted a LE kit.
Nearly the car i was after, just without a 6th gear & the 'tarty' leather \:\)

I was after Murple or silver, but in the end realised that the quality of car was the overiding factor, so a got a good Sprint Blue and have been happy ever since \:\)

I spent months researching, ad-watching, and saving up, then a stunning looking porto one came up, and as soon as I saw it I knew it would be mine. \:\/

What a great car that was. °\(

really wanted a red one, one i was going to see was a 99 with only 40k on the clock but was a few hundred miles away but it sold straight away, so ended up with a yellow one that was just round the corner from me, was in the local paper, had it for a year and a half and i love it, ikon you would have loved a 205 1.9 gti, i had one, great fun to drive

I bought the first one i looked at, something i'd never done previously.

Three years later it's still running sweet as a nut \:#

I was after a 20v T in Scotts Green with tan leather - saw one on eBay that needed major engine work, but was very cheap.

Ended up buying my speed red runner with tan leather from a trader in Broughton (opposite the Airbus factory) and spent a fortune on it since!

Absolutely. Saw a brand new portofino blue 20vt at a dealers, then when one came up with leather and A/C at auction (the auction debut of the Alfa GTV and Spider as well as the Fiat Coupe, all ex FIAT press cars) I scraped together enough to buy it in Feb 97, just 4 months old and 1700 miles on the clock. What a fantatstic feeling driving it back from the auction

always wanted a 20vt from the minute they were launched, though i never actually went out of my way to find one as they always seemed exoensive!!!..the good old days....they always seemd so exotic and glamorous compared to the competiton...and sooo fast!!

when the opportunity presented itself i bought my car, metallic burgundy, and was delighted because up till that point id never even seen a coupe that colour!!..i think the dark metallics suit the shape so much better than everything else, but each to their own...(and im obviously biased cos i only noticed this after i bought mine..!!)...my car had to be standard, and had to have leather, so im delighted still with the old beast..touchwood it just keeps on trucking and although i have tried to sell it due to circumstances in the past, the lack of a buyer has actually made me even happier than had i sold it.....looks like il have it a while yet!!

In short yes..

I spent around 4 months trawling the forum and reading up on the Coupé.

Checked the cars that came up for sale on a daily basis on both here, Pistonheads and Autotrader.

Went to see the first coupé (my current car) and ended up buying it there and then.

It fitted the spec I exactly wanted and was on low miles for the year - 46K. Now just hit 77K and still loving it :-)

1st Coupe

It was a Sunday back in 2005 and I went down to the newsagents to get milk. Was waiting in the queue to pay and I picked up a copy of Autotrader Ireland. Flicked through and saw a 16v in Blitz Blue with 55k and FSH for £2,300 outside Belfast.

Left newsagents and drove straight to Belfast, viewed it, agreed £2,000 for it, left a £50 deposit and picked it up on the Monday evening.

So basically, I went out for milk and came home with a Car!

My current car is a different story....

AlanW posted the thread Ultimate Dream Coupe and what would you pay back in February 2008 and I described how I'd like a Vinci Grey or Black LE with about 70k on the clock and all the major work done to it. the car needed to have flawless bodywork too.

Posted and thought no more about it. Got PM'd a little later on by a member who was thinking of selling his Black LE and it would basically be exactly as per my specifications. I waited over three months while it was being 'restored' and then I flew over to London in April 08, picked it up and drove to Holyhead to bring her home to Ireland. Apart from the new Toyos, refurbed alloys, front end respray to remove chips and the work done to make the bodywork flawless, the bill for the work by PowerFIAT on the mechanicals alone came to £2,425!!!!

All in all an immaculate car which I still love \:#

I always wanted a Yellow one, and when a 16vt was forsale round the corner from me i took it, in yellow too! had that for a year and then decided i wanted a 20vt. First one i found and really liked was Wine red. Least favorite colour at the time, but really grew too like it. I had always wanted a sprinty but never found a nice example, and now my second one is silver, another colour i never thought i'd go for on the coupe. Still to this day always thinking...what if i had bought a Sprinty \:\)

Came home from work feelin depressed....cars have always been my life and i hated mine 307 HDI110 tinkered with but still boring. So i did a search on ebay for cars within 10miles for less then £1000....one of the first on the list was the coupe...i remember where i used to live as a kid there was a hill and i used to see a silver LE often blatt up there making the most wonderful noises and id always been a Fiat fan and thought stuff it....
So i bid on my baby 98 20v turbo in sprint blue, given the love i have she looks amazing, is mecahnically sound (apart from the exhaust manifold) and i cant see ever wantin to get rid of her. \:\)

My other coupe was an impulse buy one day when i was at work hehe...and has been raped for parts but i still couldnt help putting a shine on the remaining bodywork at the weekend.

I started looking for a 20vt about 5 years ago, armed with a budget of around £4K. Didn't know too much about them at the time and wasn't really fussed about colour, just wanted the best spec & condition I could get for my money.

Then started to do some research on the forum and saw an Electric Blue Plus for sale, I'd never seen the colour before or knew anything about the Plus spec. but it was love at first sight \:# \:#

I rang up about that Plus but it had already been sold, but another one came up a few days later down in Essex. I drove down the next day (told the wife I was just going to look - honest ), and ended up buying it.

It was only the second coupe I'd driven and it cost me more than double my original budget & wiped out all of our savings but I just had to have it.

That was 4.5 years ago and I still love it now - definitely made the right choice, although the wife took some convincing at the time - but hey, new kitchens can wait can't they! \:D

Love at first sight \:# \:#

i was bored with my (admittedly mint) ford cougar that seemd a quick car, and was trawling for something a little different on AT. As an alternative to the cougar AT recommended the coupé so i looked into it. bought the first one i saw even though the bonnet was propped open by a 4' piece of wood and the boot lid didn't quite fit the cavity properly...

just drove her on a tester for about 10 miles and handed over the deposit there and then, picked her up next weekend and here we still are, nearly 4 years later and many ££££££ down but still loving it. next week i'm throwing another c£2k at her but it just feels right. i'll get her to a good standard if it bankrupts me!!

i also wonder if the colour you choose is age related - lots of the younger element on here don't like the more traditional colours, but to see a proper car in scot's green somehow ticks all the boxes of my definition of sporty, but i am an old codger now.......

Yes! I really wanted a sprint blue and spent a couple of weeks scouring AT etc. for a good example before I found my car at a Sheffield dealer called Direct Cars.

The coupe stood out a mile on their forecourt (mostly rep mobiles and new Subaru's) so I think they were a little unsure what to do with it and just wanted rid.

It was at an excellent price for its age/mileage (only 2.5 years old with 21k on the clock) so I went to see it and handed over the deposit after a 10 mile test drive!

Couldnt wait to pick it up the next week, although the company I was working for at the time 'really needed' me (yeah right, they wanted all of my weekends) and asked me to get the garage to drop it off at work, they would happily pay any costs.

The thought of a 17 year old car sales flunky driving my new coupe over the Peaks to Halifax filled me with dread and I told them where to stick it and boy was it worth it....

I picked up a fully serviced, fully valeted coupe and got to drive her back over the peaks on a crisp January day \:D \:D

A revelation compared to the 14 year old Renault 11 I had been driving! 8 years later and I've just driven her to work - love that car!

Back in 2001 i had the coupe,an s2000 and a lotus elise on my which one to buy list...
i could nt justify a 26 000 spend on a s 2000 , missed out on a 9,000 mile coupe and settled for the elise as an everyday user !!! was fun but the roads are not good enough for the lotus , by a long shot....
So.. i searched out a good coupe and i ve got to say, it s one of those cars you make excuses to go out and drive and has an increadable feel good factor when you approach and drive it....

When I was looking for my next car I had a short list of a Mk3 VR6 Golf, Calibra Turbo or possibly a VTEC Civic. I test 5 cars in on day and nearly bought the a Golf. Coming back from my day of viewings I saw a Coupe driving the opposite way around the M25. Once home I was straight on the trader and to my delight I found that they were within my budget.

3 months on and I had a deposit on a mechanically sound 20VT, with all the big jobs done but in need a bit of spraywork. Over a year later I still love my Coupe and it puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it. I have absolutely no intention of selling my Coupe!

when i got my first one i didn't really know what they were!!!
my ex's dad worked at a vw dealership and someone had partex'd a porto 20VT for a people carrier, i'd been on the lookout for a decent scooby but they were hard to find so he phoned me and asked if my new car had to have four doors and told me he had something interesting in.
went to see it and even though it was filthy i fell in love with it and bought it!!
was only a few months later though that rust started appearing everywhere and i found out it had been involved in a non-recorded smash, left to stand for 6 months then repaired but the rust worm had already set in.
i was gutted as i loved the car but ended up part-exing it for the scooby i'd always hankered after.
had three years great motoring in the scooby but always said i'd get another coupe.
finally the crank went on the scooby so with a baby in the house another coupe wasn't practical at the time so I got a legnum vr-4, absolutely fantastic car!! but not a coupe!!
so after 8 months of 12mpg average another car was needed.
the ex had bought a zafira in the meantime so it was decided another coupe was needed.
ended up buying Edz old porto 20VT!!!!
absolutely just what i wanted as i love porto blue and nearly three and a half years later still love it.
thinking of getting a new car in a couple of years but doubt the coupe will be going anywhere though!!!

Yes.

1st coupe
I went to Wimbledon Carriage Company to test a GTV V6 and saw the Y reg coupe with cream leather, and thought sod the GTV thats what I am going to have, but they wanted £13k for it (this is at a time when top coupes were fetching around £10-11) so I thought ah well, let it go, as WCC never moved their price. About 4 months later, the very same car cropped up for sale on here and I bought it for alot less than £13k \:#

2nd coupe
I really wanted a modded coupe and Rog said buy Jintels, so we did a swap of cars and I got the modded car I wanted.

All quite simple really \:\)
