Helps to prevent surge. Of particular concern when running big turbo's like this one.

Basically a ported shroud helps eliminate compressor surge by porting the compressor inlet so that excess air can be diverted back to the inlet. It makes a huge difference on part throttle for my car.

I have mapped a couple of high boosting RSR turbos that boost too quickly in high gears i.e. more air than can be consumed by the engine at a particular rpm. Basically they have crossed the surge line where the turbo wants to give more so you get the air backing up and stalling the turbo. As long as it doesn't last too long then it won't damage the turbo.

Trappy, 510bhp??? \:D Not sure about that but I can confirm it is faster \:\)

If you can carry that 379lbs/ft @ 5,800rpm another 1,200rpm, then you'll be at 500bhp @ 7,000rpm. Where is this turbo likely to make peak power? I'd assume higher than Matty's 6,500rpm as it's a bigger unit.

If torque does trail off dramatically over 6,000rpm then you're probably looking at a frankly pathetic 450bhp

F****** b****** thing...

Depends on which Datsun boys ;\) Yet to come across one on track that is quicker but of course there will be some one day. Anyway, I'm quite happy keeping Ferraris, Lamborghinis, Corvettes, Porsche Turbos all honest... and that was with a little less oomph \:\)

Have you driven a R32 GTR??

I cant see any coupe out handling a R32 GTR TBH, mine will be back from spain soon, maybe we should put it to the test but i have over 600BHP, 4WD, 4 wheel steer and 9.5 inch wide tyres in each corner.....

To take out driver skill maybe we should take a lap in each others cars??

200sx is a different story though, much closer matched

Well I did say it depends on which Datsun. I have never seen a big power Skyline on track, they all appear to be too busy running up the dragstrip which is such a waste of a fantastic handling car.

Anyway, I would love to have a crack in your car, anything that well sorted is an exciting track opportunity.

Me too and i agree it depends on which Datsun boys and how many million bhp they have. Lets remember the coupe is only fwd and i have frightened a good few supposed well known cars with lots more bhp. What i do find interesting in the Time attack series is why a Skyline is not winning any of the classes?

Nah, it generally does what its supposed to do, which is shift some lardy bastard from A-B while wallowing around under its huge girth.

to be honest it won't keep with 900bhp skylines but for what it is its a really stunning bit of kit and i would love to be taken out in it sometime.
if i am fair i ahve had quite a few skylines and with much more power than the coop and with full coilovers and track setup and although it was quicker than the coop i find the coop so much easier to drive fast and don't worry what it will do to me so if i had a choice or a very high powered skyline again or fleas car i would take fleas car!

A standard coupe is 1320KG and a R32 GTR is 1430KG, hardly lardy.

Standard brakes are shit on the R32 though

I checked and it was 6 slower and 2 faster on that track \:o

5 of the slower ones ran low 11 sec 1/4's.

It show's what a Coupe is capable of in the right hands (even with some 2nd hand suspension parts)

very true but totb isn't set up for skylines s its so tight and with it being mainly rwd they do better on larger tracks.

the thing is nigel i respect what you do with your coop it is a fine machine and you set great times but where are the other coops on that list? they don't really compete on the same level so either your a amazing driver or your car is far above the other coops?

to be fair the skylines are falling behind on to scoobys and evos and untill the new gtr is cheaper and played with this will remain the case.

i would love to build a coop that would be as quick as the skylines but doubt it will happen.

there was only one other Coupe this year (Flea) and he was having a lot of problems on the day!

I don't think tight tracks really suit the coupe!

they have more instant grip than a skyline does thats why they are better.
the skyline is rwd and not that well setup for rwd untill the back breaks traction then sends power to the front so it goes very sideways then front pulls you out of it and capterpults you but you need room to do this and the rear can't be setup very well because of this so you need a more flowing track.

if you get the back out on a gtr just as the front kicks in and let off the gas you spin so you have to be brave and keep the foot to the floor.

no such drama in the coop just be gental on the gas so it doesn't break traction.

all hail king of the 2liter coupes (FLEA)
we're not worthy

GOOD WORK! why do these things always have to turn into a comparison with another car cant we just be happy with out cars we didnt choose them because there FWD we chose them because we like them! otherwise we would all drive pulsa GTIR's cheep and super fast with little mods.

Well I took it out for a few tweaks today, the roads were a bit dryer. As a result I managed to hook up 3rd gear for the first time... I'm grinning writing this, it's getting a little silly now even for me \:D
