I've finally got round to looking at installing a racing seat that I have into the car. Following Nigel's lead, I'm planning to install my sparco seat onto a coupe seat subframe (as the coupe's subframe isn't easy to replicate).

However I'm struggling to seperate the seat and subframe on the scrap donor coupe seat that I have.

Has anyone got any ideas on how to remove the 8 or so bolts between seat and subframe?

You need to butcher the old seat. It took me a day and alot of swearing. IIRC the runners are welded and bolted to the base of the OEM seat.

no - its all done with bolts - torx screws I believe

You should simply be able to undo all the bolts and pull the frame away from the runners

However, if you want the runners off the seats, its a different story - serious hacking required

Thanks Kenno and Nigel \:\)

I'll be having a look at this again later this evening and will report back on progress made (and method used!)

Dave - you're welcome to visit if you want - bring your seat with you and we'll attack it with my tools - I'm around most evenings and all weekend, but check with me first

Thanks Nigel \:\)

I've dusted the grinder and safety specs off \:D ... so will see how I get on, and may well give you a call!

Dave. I would firstly get all the cloth off and remove the bolsters from the seat base. Once you've done this it should be easier to see what needs unbolting.

To get the cloth off, get a pair of pliers and a screwdriver and pull at the places where the cloth has been tucked into the seat. It's fairly tough so you might need a fair bit of force to get it off.

It ended up being relatively simple to seperate off the subframe and runners, although a bit of hacking was required And both Nigel's and Kenno's advice above was very helpful ... thanks gents \:\)

Here is the donor seat, which a friend kindly provided (for nowt!) \:\)

To get the subframe(s) off, you simply need to undo the two torx bolts at the back of each runner - shown here .

To get the runners off, you need to remove the seat base cloth and foam. I started by freeing up the back with a screwdriver/pliers, then pulling that through to the front and then working round the base until it was free.

There are then four nuts to undo, which hold the runners to the base. Strangely, just on one runner, there was also a single rivet . It wouldn't drill out, as it span, so I hacksawed through it.

The end result ... subframe and runners . \:\)

Now I just need to fabricate an adaptor plate to mount my race seat. \:\)
