I think anyone who owns a car nowadays agrees something should be done about the car insurance monopoly, but it's just to grin and bear. The cost of living generally is going up at the moment at a rate, so even if insurance wasn't going up, it would still be relatively harder to afford. On a purely selfish note, I'm just glad I'm over 30 years old, it does seem to make a difference.

Best of luck in getting sorted, mate, life sucks

What sort of thing are you thinking about here, Matt?

I do get a little pee'd off that now they all seem to ask you if you're a home-owner and I'm not entirely convinced that non-motoring criminal convictions are relevant, but everything else they ask seems fair enough to me.

Dear monos, a secret truth.

Try MCE. I run my 300bhp chevy 5.7l camaro through them and I pay £165 on a classic policy.

I should probably re-phrase that actually.

What I mean is, they shouldnt automatically stereotype you from information which is not related to your car or your driving history.

I am currently unemployed, I left my old job at the end of 2008, and am starting in the RAF in 2 weeks. If I get a car insurance quote right now and put unemployed, it comes out £300 more than if I put full time employed, with all other details the same. I would expect my premiums to be calculated on my perfect claim free driving history, clean licence, low insurance group car, where it's parked, what security it has, and so on, rather than whether I have a job or not. I dont mind being asked about my employment status, but the only time it should come into the premium calculation is whether I select SDP or SDP + Commuting, IMHO. \:\)

If I put unemployed and paid the higher price, then phoned up in 2 weeks and got it changed to full time employed, would they refund the difference?

If I lied and put full time employed, then had a claim in the one or two times I'll actually use the car before I start in the RAF, would they phone the MOD and ask what date I started on before paying out a claim?

Also, they shouldnt ask if I have claimed against another party for something that was not my fault, I cant see why they should need to know that, other than to penalise the victim further. \:P

Get an Alfa if you can't get a Fiat.
Fords and Vauxhalls are so boring and common. And the hot ones are a Chavs wheels of choice.

Cry me a river, a 20VT is a group 19 car - it's going to be difficult to insure.

Feeblebob - you are on another planet to the rest of us. Insurance Monopoly? What, is there only 1 supplier of car insurance in the world? I think you'll find it's one of the most competitive insurance markets out there, if not THE most competitive market out there. Plenty of choice, easy access to new markets - the complete opposite to a monopoly.

If you don't understand how insurance pricing works, then you can ask and I can explain it, but moaning about it saying "do they think money grows on tree's" etc... is just naive.

Sideways a LOT

Very much so. I was hesitant to post anything else on here.

I know the coupe isnt a cheap car to run or insure. I was more then well aware of that when i bought it, especially the 20vt.

Just still of the opinion that its completely unfair that ive done nothing wrong but still end up being stung.

I like the Bravo 155 ive got now. However its no 20vt \:\(

Sorry to of caused bad feeling during this thread. Wasent my intention.
