I assume you have a 20vt. Well you can make a hybrid of it or buy a new one. Garrett GT28R/RS is very popular in UK. If you don't have a lot of money then go for a hybrid turbo. You don't have to change anything else, just plug it in . If you choose a GT28R/RS you need to change the downpipe (not the same exit on GT28R/RS as the original one) and some other stuff.

hi guys i was going to ask the same question, i was thinking i would like power bewteen 280bhp and 350bhp, my car is standard at the moment except for a gtec1 chip, prv and boost gauge. i know it will get exspensive the more you tune, but i want to make a list of what things to get so i can prepare financially.

This is what has been done so far : has been chipped with a full stainless exhaust system and a blitz blow off valve. I am aiming to get around 280 - 300 bhp, i will be doing the work myself, There is a hell of a lot of work involved with running a bigger turbo. You will need: A front mount intercooler a bigger fuel pump and straight voltage feed a boost controller a boost gauge an uprated clutch if you are going near 300bhp Custom mapping What bore exhaust do you have? Scrimp on any of the above and you are likely to end up with a big oily mess. For 280-300 bhp I would run a GT28R or a GTI-r hybrid turbo.

Well - which is it, 2.5 or 3?
For 280 bhp or so an Alfa GTA clutch will do the job - they are a straight fit.
For over 300 bhp then look at a GTA clutch with a walkers cover plate.
For 350 or so then you will need a helix paddle or helix organic - they are a fair bit more expensive.

GT28rs is a roller bearing turbo - will flow 340 bhp - will spin up at 3,500
GTIr is journal bearing, and will flow 280-300. It will spin up at 3,000
On a GT series turbo you really need at least a three inch downpipe to get it to work well...GTIr will work well with 2.5 inch exhaust.

I'd go for the GTIR - but it really depends on what you want from the car...see Nigel's post earlier in this thread.

About 250-260 bhp as an absolute maximum - most cars produce around 240bhp.
