Recently purchased from scara 73....
Had manifold off to sort leaking gasket and thought this would be ideal time to fit larger elbow and exhaust system!!
So got it all bolted together, started her up and it sounded like a tractor... on closer inspection we've noticed its blowing quite badly (to say the least), from where new elbow meets turbo!!
we bolted elbow to turbo yesterday and all seemed fine, didn't use any exhaust paste as it is a cone fitment and my mechanic thought it should be a perfect seal??

This is a real pain as there is no way of knowing if it is sealed properly untill manifold is bolted back in and car started!!So its all gotta come of again tommorrow...

the elbow does not fit flush like the old one did?? the surfaces where the 3 bolts go through touched on my old elbow where as they are about 4/5mm from touching with new elbow in place???

There was me thinking it would be simple swap but yet again i am dissapointed.... FECKING CAR grr

Mechanic says he'll get it all off tommorow and try it with exhaust paste!!
Surely if this works it will only be a temporary fix??

Hi Nick,

The gap is no problem because the part the seals is the raised part. I had issues when fitting mine (one off) because the turbo flange needed cleaning up first. You might also want to get a socket in and try to tighten them all up before stripping down.

we've tried tightening them more but no joy!
When you say cleaning up what do you mean and how did you do it??
also did you use any exhaust paste to help with the seal???
