Hi,

Need to know which pipe i shoud attach the T piece to for my boost guage?

Have fitted it to the one i thought it should be and have a really erraticc reading. Not any problems with the pipe routing or anything.

Its almost like its reading backwards?

Cheers Keith

Hi,

Took her for a run yesterday and it seems the guage is running fine, but it will not reach more than 0.5bar and ticks over around -0.5bar.

Uh-oh, so i guess i've got a leak somewhere.

Have a look tonight, wish me luck!!

Try taking a vid of your boost gauge while you take it for a run, get someone else to hold it while you drive. Go through first, second and then third then put the vid on this thread. That way we can see what it is doing and if not me someone will be able to advise you on what is going on.

More image and info you post, the more people can help.

or you could have crushed the pipe somewhere so the airs not get to the gauge properly

I will try and get sum video on here tonight. But its only just boosting to 0.5 at the very best.

Have checked the pipe and its not crushed, and am sure i'm in the right pipe as i pulls a regular -0.4 to -0.5 on idle.

Will check for leaks tonight but is it wise to spray soapy water on the pipes when the engines running as surely this could draw water in to my inlet/turbo?

Cheers

I'm not sure but i will get a pic on here of which pipe at lunch.

Wondering if its the actuator arm not closing properly? Any idea of where it is so i can check it?

Uh-oh....

Been reading up on this symptom and turns out could be any one of the following:

Air leak/split hose.
Bu*$erred Turbo.
Engine sensor.
Broken EBV.
Failing Dump valve.
Broken actuator.
Damaged CAT.

I've just bought a chip and lower heat range plugs for it too so if anyones interested let me know as i may have to sell them on if i can't get my boost sorted:(

Well not to worry mate. None of them are difficult to rectify.
IIRC standard boost should drop down to 0.5bar right at 6.5k anyway. But we'll be able to see from the video.

Oh, and I T'd my boost gauge off the MAP sensor here (well, "there" actually!). It doesn't affect the sensor:

BTW, how do you get that nice little thumbnail? laugh

Nah, done it and tested it and doesn't make a difference. the volume of the pipes are minuscule and the volume swept by the engine every rev is comparatively humongous, so makes no difference. According to one of my books, the MAP sensor pipe can be up to something like 20ft (IIRC) without making a difference.

Cheers All.....

Sorry will add the video and pics tonight due to working for a bunch of facists i can't upload them as i dont have full Tinternet accsess:(

Here's the pics of the attached 'T' piece;

http://i558.photobucket.com/albums/ss22/Keefmiester/24032009188.jpg

http://i558.photobucket.com/albums/ss22/Keefmiester/24032009187.jpg

http://i558.photobucket.com/albums/ss22/Keefmiester/24032009188.jpg

And the vid;

http://s558.photobucket.com/albums/ss22/...VID-1ST-3RD.flv

After running it for a few days to and from work, it definetely doesn't wanna exceed +0.5 bar, it seems like its limited to that?

No dash lights on and it definetely doesn't drive like its in 'limp' mode.

When in high gear low revs, clutch out, it sometimes goes as low as -0.7.

At tick over and clutch in sit's bang on -0.5.

I'm beggining to think it may be the lambda sensor as i know there notoriously difficult to diagnose, and am 99% sure i have no leaks.

Phew, hope you can help....

Cheers Keith

Cheers. For the vid we need to see it at full-throttle revving from about 2k all the way to the limiter, preferably in 3rd gear, or 2nd if you can't get up to that speed safely.

Quick update.

Today i relocated the feed pipe for the B.guage to the MAP pipe.

I also disconnected the EBV and gave it a good clean with WD.

Now i can boost up to 0.8 BAR, but still don't get any overboost.

Think i'm gonna replace the EBV,

any one know where's best to get one?
If i use a manual adjust under the bonnet type what do i do with the electrical sender connected to the original?

And finally those Fiat OEM hose clips are a pain in the ass!!

MBC for about £20, set the boost at constant pace at whatever boost you want. word of warning tho, for me if you are going to up the boost by chip or eletronic/manual boost control you need to better the cooling sytem. For me I have a evocars chip but I am not fitting it until I have the frount mount intercooler, off evo 6.

Maybe you can help me mate, were is the EBC located? Maybe you can take a couple of pics showing the location? Is it hard to clean take on/off? Havn't got round to doing mine yet tho it is on the list. PM me or something.

As for the fiat clips, I would replace them with chunky air tight jubali clips to makesure no air can escape. It is the little touches that most can't be bothered with that makes all the diffrence.

Thanks

Hey,

How do i fit the MBC? Is it inline working as a by pass or is it a complete replacement?

Jim; will get sum pics on here tomoz but its bolted to the very right hand side of the radiator with a self tapping 8mm bolt, will need to pop out the bonnet closing button to accses the bolt head, which has a clip fit connecter that just pulls open.(right as you stand facing the engine under the hood.)

One pipe goes on to the top of the EBV and two come out the bottom, then it has one two pin connector that just pulls lose.

I really just want an OEM EBV but can't find one anywhere:(

Ps Jim..

Have been told my almost stock engine will run fine with a dink chip as standard, bar an induction filter, with no other mods except lower heat range plugs.

Just looking for a bit more oomph more than ultimate power, have to say hope your wrong about the FMIC?

Have to let you know if it kills my coupe or not!!

All i'm saying mate is its beter to be safe than sorry with regards to the fmic. Depends how hard it is drove and how often it is drove hard too. If that makes sense.

Yes mate, pics would be good if you don't mind. Would be great help.

Also I am not sure about replacing it or what ever, was just gonna buy one so if that means i'm changing the whole thing does it?

Well hopefully i should be ok without the FMIC, not looking for an all out racer just want more poke to overtake the numptys out there!!

Haven't done the pic yet, as its raining still but try and get one on today.

Have been speaking to a very knowledgable chap on here who tells me the standard EBV and Dump Valve are both crap, and everyone would benefit from replacing them with upgraded aftermarket parts.

From my experience that's exactly what it's designed to do. It just boosts up to 0.8bar and then drops to 0.5bar. So your car's working fine.

BTW, did you give it full throttle from 2k all the way to the limiter and get someone to watch the boost gauge?

Ah, interesting, after cleaning it it only goes up to 0.7 bar but in 1st 2nd and 3rd it won't exceed 0.5.

Ordered a mbv and uprated dump valve, let you know how i get on.

Thought it was supposed to boost to 1 bar and overboost to 1.2?

I have PM you buddy, can't wait to see the vid.

I thiught standard boost was 0.7, over boost to 0.9 then drop to 0.7 again? I thought 0.5 was base boost only?
