just after some advice.

I have had my renewal through for my insurance from privelidge today which was £409 fully comp however they have bumped up the excess to £650 for accidental damage and £550 for it being stolen.

1997 20vt
67000miles
34 years old
wife as named driver
8 years no claims
s/s exhaust declared (everything else standard)

This to me seems like a rip off for the excess considering the car is prob only worth £2000-£2500. Although i have the certificate they have not taken the money out of my account.

I am thinking of putting a stop on the payment and shopping around for a better quote as when i did a CONFUSED quote there were some slightly better deals around albeit for a completely standard car.

Will i have any issues cancelling the insurance now trying to get them to send the no claims proof as the renewal does not show the 8 years anywhere?

Does this excess sound excessive smile ??
Expensive quote?

Thanks Mike

How much??? I have never heard of such as excessive excess on such a car!

I think it is time to start shopping around - try Admiral/Elephant/Esure ... plus Greenlight and Adrian Flux
Moneysupermarket.com is also quite good as a comparison site

Legally you can cancel your policy within 14 days, they can however charge you a handling fee and ask for your policy certificate back.

You should never accept a renewal, always shop around. You will always get a better deal, it’s how insurance works wink

Good deals are offered to NEW customers, as an existing customer you have to work to get the same deal, but you will get one smile

Gone Audi mad!

As Bob says, i have never spent longer than a year with the same insurance company, the renewals are always rubbish.

Same here. It makes you wonder how insurance companies stay profitable. In any other business it pays to keep your regular customers happy, but in insurance the motto always seems to be screw your exisitng customers...

Renewals aren't 'always rubbish' I've had renewals before that noone else had been able to match. Swiftcover & More Than are worth a look.
