Luckily I was on my way to a fishing trip, and I was able to pull the cable from its sheath, then loop the ends together and bind over it with fishing line, then route it over the plenum chamber which is a slightly shoter route...

It got me home.

After that I joined the RAC.

Have been driving mine almost daily for 2 years now. (16VT with now ±215k (KM) on the clock).

Only faults that stopped me from driving were a damaged gearbox (due to roadworks) and some things getting loose after having that repaired (gear linkage came loose on the drive home from the garage and the clutch pedal came loose (literally loose from the clutch cylinder) a few days after that.).

Aside from that I've had a corroded connector on the amp for the coil packs, making the coop run on two cylinders, but that was easily fixed...


My boss has had more problems with his (brand new) BMW 5-something Touring than I've had with my Coup... (and still everyone is making fun of "that weird yellow thing"...)

hi and welcome hayley - buy one and be amazed just follow the advice above and you'll be fine.

i had my 20vt for nearly 4 years and it stopped running twice - once was a pipe blowing off where the previous owner had tied it with a bootlace..

and the second was when the master clutch/brake resorvoir cracked...not bad to a car i bought with 72k miles on and put 41k on myself, driving pretty much every day.....

Invest some good money in finding the right coupe. Coupe's may be cheap as chips at the moment but a lot of them out there have not been well looked after so don't always go for the cheapest. Make sure it's got plenty of service history. Also, don't buy one if you are not prepared to look after it! It's not the kind of car that's "just a car" - it needs regular maintainence and love to keep it going. Be prepared to pay huge chunks of money if something does go wrong.

Oh and - also be prepared for the forum to take over your life!
