Okay the final piece for Project Jigsaw was always going to be the bodywork. That piece is finally about to fall into place.....

At the moment the bonnet is a dented mess and, in common with several other body panels, looks like someone tried to apply the paint with a catapult. In the dark. Backwards. In the rain! sick

The Speed Red paint is no longer red in most places, it's a patchwork of pink, orange (a blind paintman!) and some fresh red mixed in here and there.

I have a new bonnet and new bumpers ready to be fitted. I've had various quotes and looked at samples of the work on offer before finally choosing a local place who seem to do a very thorough job for a decent price (that's a secret! wink )

Now, the thing is I don't want to do a whole mid-life crisis colour change but I am pondering the idea of a better shade of red, maybe a more modern red (and hopefully a more stable red so that she doesn't need a full respray again in a few years time!).

Any suggestions on an eye-catching red? Strangely enough my Octavia is Rallye Red and it looks quite decent and hasn't faded after seven years of being outside in all weathers but it's maybe not quite "sporty" enough?

I'm looking for "Head-Turning Red" suggestions! laugh

Over to you folks...........

True! I also tend to get to stopped quite often for having an unsafe load when she's on board as the car is always leaning heavily to the left laugh

I think I need to start wandering through some car parks looking for red cars...

Mines booked in for the 20th Stan, sticking with the original red. ( speed 168 )

Fits your "The Speed Red paint is no longer red in most places, it's a patchwork of pink, orange (a blind paintman!) and some fresh red mixed in here and there." description pretty well right now laugh

Are they doing your door shuts etc Stan, it'd have to be close to the red it is now if not, as it'd look odd when you opened the door wink

Alfa Rosso to be honest. It's somewhere between the speed red and the dark metallic red and I personally think it's pretty good. It's about the same as the Mini Chili Red.

Crikey! My senile dementia is getting really bad these days, I'd totally forgotten about starting this thread! blush

Well the good news is that this has been delayed by a week or two so I've got more time to ponder on the actual shade.

I'm liking some of the suggestions, Alfa Rosso seems like a great colour. Interestingly the suggestion about the Audi reds ties in with my comment above about my Octavia as it turns out the colour is an Audi colour (Laserot or Laser Red) and on the plus side means I'd only have to buy one rattle can to patch up two cars! laugh

Door shuts are being done as they are yet another colour again from the rest of the car! laugh

Hmmm, white with reflective Battenburg checker pattern? I like! laugh

get the tvr candy red as it is very deep and striking colour and suits cars with outragous designs. expensive though

Another vote for Audi Red, the RS4 one.

..or how about Peugeot P0KB - Cherry Red. Then perhaps the Peugeot talbot sport stripes down the car? And change the alloys for some lighter Michelin steelies. In white. And take out the aircon, carpets, in fact pretty much everything.

laugh

Coopless!

Red? The shade used for the Final Edition Integrale (also shared with the Ducato Van rolleyes) would get my vote...

Thanks for all the input folks but it now looks like this is dead in the water cry

Mrs Stan wasn't happy about the costs involved for "an old car" rolleyes

However, what has finally blown the budget out of the water is that while Mrs Stan is away sunning herself on the Swiss Alps (or eating them... sick ) I checked her Leon over and discovered it needs new front wheel bearings, new rear dampers, new discs/pads all round and a bit of paintwork done too. I guess we can't grumble though, it's done 190k miles! laugh

Ah well, unless someone knows a decent paint sprayer in the Carlisle/Penrith area who accepts magic beans or you know someone who wants to buy my body for pleasure, then this final part of Project Jigsaw is on hold for several months banghead

(Note to self: *never* get married again! rolleyes )
