Get the bonnet debadged.
Put on a Cada bumper.
Put on a Lester grille.
Get the car resprayed in black.
Get the side pininfirina badges sprayed in red.
Get the petrol cap sprayed in red.

It will either look fantastic. Or totally sh*t.

To be honest, mate, what you are proposing fills me with dread. In my opinion, an unmolested Portofino coupe is one of the most beautiful cars around. What you propose will ruin it. Would leaving it alone be so bad? Think about why you want to change it and why you bought a coupe in the first place.

I bought a Coupe because I really like the overall shape.

However, the paintwork on my Coupe is far from perfect. The bonnet is blue. The driver door is purple. The offside back is blue/purple. The boot is blue. Then all of the roof and nearside are purple. When its really sunny weather it looks ok as the colours seem to blend together. But in grey weather the different coloured panels are really obvious. And it looks awful at times, to me.

Now even though I like the overall shape, there are certain things I want to improve- essentially I want the front end to look more aggressive and sporty. The standard bumper seems too tame and dated and the Plus grill is quite bland. I feel the Cada bumper and Lester grille make more of a visual impact.

Most importantly, black is my all time favourite colour and I just want a bit of a change.

I am at the moment in two minds about all of this.
I definitely want to get a Cada bumper and Lester grille to make the coupe more sporty.
Then its either a case of respraying it all Porto (which probably wouldn't suit the cada bumper and lester grille as these are aggressive and Porto isn't an agressive colour) or black (which probably would suit the new bumper and grille).

confused confused

I think your latter description would suit those mods IMO sick .

i think that's true to an extent, but if it's done properly it can look gorgeous - anyone who wants to see how this should be handled should search for recent pics of circolo's recent respray and fuel cap mod. expensive yes, but very very classy and one of the few external mods that makes the coupe look better/more modern imo....

Thanks all for the compliments.

Just quickly. Remember it's your car, and you'll have to live with it after you've modified it.

That's why it took me a couple of years before I modified mine. It takes that long to really know what you'd like to change, rather than just buy a selection of aftermarket bumpers have a few extra parts sprayed a different colour.

BTW watch this space, as she may be up for sale soon... Alas not enough time to keep her in the condition she's in, and she's hardly ever driven these days.

Will keep you posted.

I think the coupe has got to the age where trying to modernise the look only makes it look all Chavy. It's a losing battle.
Whereas a clean original coupe represents its place in time.
Its like admiring an E type, 308 or dino..........DATED-yes,FLAWED-yes, BEAUTIFUL-definately!

It is your car, so do as you wish.
But there WILL be more and owners who will take this view. I'm spending my money on making it a great drive in top nick.

if you've seen the close-up pics of circolo's recent works and still think it's chavvy, either you need specsavers badly or it's time to move on from the coupé - imho....

also some models came of the production line with skirts, so how does adding them later translate into chavviness? crazy

i happen to think the plus and le look pretty damn good to be honest...

Wooh I'll take the bait.
Chris Bangle designed the coupe... the later updates where done after he had left for BMW.
Just because your mate pins a badge on you BOSS suit it doesnt make him a designer called HUGO.

Alright - you've already said that once - we get it - you don't like body mods. rolleyes

Also - to get back to the OP, it is my honest and humble opinion that resparying a portofino blue car black is a travesty. The cada bumper could be forgiven, the lester grill is unacceptable and as for respraying the petrol cap red???? Oh Dear Lord NO!! sick

I fear that this could turn out to be the chavviest coupe on the forum.

If the LE skirts & lips look so 'chavvy' how come loads of Coupe owners fit replicas to their cars on an after-market basis ?

Perhaps in your eyes, I have several exterior modifications on my coupe including a lester grill. i think this adds to the looks rather than detracts.

I won't be drawn into the whole chav thing - everyone has a right to style their cars the way they want to - it's their own car after all..

jkd, if your coupe looks anything like adam gt's or this one: http://images.pistonheads.com/aimg/918/918367-1t.jpg

then leave it well alone, it looks bloody gorgeous as it is! Having said that, it is your car, so its a risk you take chinny
