Ive never understood why they painted the sills black, just looks weird, got mine colour-coded and improved the looks ten-fold, it should be a neccessity. Its a bit like the lesser-spec golfs with black bumper bits, then the higher spec ones are fully colour coded and look a lot better but on a car as nice as the coop, they shouldnt have done it in the first place. I think the 16v/20v na wheels are hideous and really spoil the look of the car, almost look like wheel-trims but i think its hard to find wheels that suit the car better than the 20v turbo wheels, very cool design. I think some kits further improve the looks of the car as a lot of the side skirts match the slashes and wheels, just look at the difference it makes....

I wouldn't say its ugly- it does give the Coupe a sleek look when viewed at a distance from the side. However, it IS dated- when viewed up close it just looks boring and doesn't seem to do much for the Coupe's sporty image.

i like the look of both i am honest.
the bit i can't see is how people compare the coop to cars such as 308 gts's or e types or db5's lol all SUPERCARS of the time. even the mk1 golf is iconic due to being the first hot hatch and a beging of a eira and a brilliant driving car.
the coop i am afraid falls more in line with rover tomcats, celibra's celica's and alike which are all nice cars but not a supercar or iconic.

i think some poeple on here are on drugs and do way over do what a coop really is.

Agreed. Its a nice looking car, but you won't be getting any in museums.

I'm happy with the way my mildly styled car looks, the kit gives it a more purposeful look, lowering slightly gives a more purposeful stance (and gets rid of the 'stilts' ride height of the standard car).

The Coupe is a super car.

Not a supercar.

I think you need to read peoples posts properly peanuthead. He wasnt saying that the db5/e type are similar to the coupe but that these are old cars (dated) also, yet they still look fantastic, the coupe is now a relatively old car but still looks fantastic.

not really to me that is a comparison and the fiat isn't the same kind of car.
i would be horified if i saw a mk2 jag on 18's and massive boot install and stuff but in some coops it suits as the fiat is not a classic iconic car it is a cheap nice coupe that can be improved looks wise and lets face it who cars if people kit them up its there car and they haven't ruined a master piece work of art classic rare car.
i rarly see celibra 4x4 turbos, bloody rare car and very fast but i bet if you saw a standard one or one with 18's your view on the car wouldn't change. just a old out of date vauxhall

If you're referring to a *calibra 4x4 turbo then yeah my view would never change, as ive never liked the shape since launch, just looks boring to me. You could paint it in the nicest colour, fit the best wheels etc, still wouldnt like it. You're missing the point though, the coupe is a nice shape to begin with and the point of this topic is to discuss whether kits/ modern hid lights etc are spoiling the original design of the car...

PS: sandytim, i see you're a stafford lad, are you coming to the next raf cosford meeting arranged by porkypaul, was superb last two events....?

I disagree. When the Calibra came out it was love I really, really wanted one as it looked so much better than any of the cack around at the time. I still feel it looks better than it's replacement which was Astra based.

It pre-dated the Coupé by several years so has had longer to "go off" though in the right colour, spec and condition I would still have one. As for it's short-comings, hey, it's old enough to vote.

but that is personal choice tommy you still have to admit the coop is no more or no lesser car that the celibra just its age seprates it slightly and that is what lets the celibra down.
this is not a classic or a iconic car or anything yet and i hate to admit i doubt it will do really so by making the car easier to use with uprated lights isn't ruining anything or is changing the strange wheels.
each to there own on a car like this.

sometimes i really don't know myself but i have it so i guess i will stick with it.
i like the drive of the car i like the look of the car and i have spent loads on it so not worth selling.
so yes i like the car when its working hence me still having it but i make no illusions on what the car is. its a 3k sports car that is 11 years old and wears a fiat badge. so when people compare it to ferrai's and classic supercars and say that it is the best car in the world i have to laugh because its not.

Peanuthead is entitled to his opinions, as are we all, I just sometimes cant help thinking he'd be better off selling up and buying something he loves, as clearly coupes are not it .... confused

i just think you just have some massive blinks on lol.
i will have the car at xmas and after that to.
im not slating the car i have just said i like the drive and the looks and so on but i know i am not driving a motoring master piece.

i am sorry about my posts but i am dislexic and busy man so i can't check my post so i am affraid they won't change most.
once i find something that is worth swaping to then i will change my car as i don't feel i have to be loyal to the brand or anything or because i use a fiat coupe forum i should glam up how i view the coop.
i call gold gold and shit shit so thats the way i am and i won't say wow this is the best car to ever hit british roads and there will never be a car that can over shadow the coop. lol

don't get me wrong i actully really like the coop and am going to do it up so it is one of the best in the country and run decent power levels but i won't say its the best car ever.
look at nigel he has one of the fastest and most reconised coops here and if you asked him if it was in the same leauge as 355's or 308 gts's or even anything other than a decent good looking powerful car he would laugh at you,.

I dont have blinkers on at all, peanut head. There are better looking, better performing cars out there, lots of them. The fiat coupe is what it is, a sports coupe that costs little to buy yet looks striking/stunning, has very strong performance (20v turbo/16v turbo guise) and has lots of character and a fun factor that is desperately missing from most modern cars but this is going totally off-topic dude, its regarding kitted up coops and trying to modernise it with hid's etc.... rolleyes

HIDs are one of the best mods you can make on a Coupé, not from a visual sense, but for safety. Its well recognised that a standard Coupés lights aren't the best, HIDs make a great difference.

Plus they look cool.

You don't mod a Ferrari F50.
You don't mod a Lamborghini Gallardo.
You don't mod an Aston Martin DBS.
You don't mod a Bugatti Veyron.
You don't mod a Pagani Zonda.
You don't mod a Porsche Carrera GT.

You can mod a Fiat Coupe!
Lets face it, if the standard design was so perfect why did Fiat make changes to it over the years?

I sure didn't see Ferrari make an LE version of the F50.

And look at one of the early sketches when it was being designed- http://www.fiatcoupehistory.com/Bilder%20komp/039k.jpg. That looks quite a bit like an aftermarket PIU type bumper doesn't it?

There is essentially a limit to which aftermarket modding can work by blending in with the original styling.
