Its a 1999 20vt LE. Just had a top engine rebuild, new standard turbo with 360 bearing, custom stainless exhaust all work by POWERITALIA and a Gtec 1 , bailys DV and K&N panel filter.

Was a little disapointed with the figure to be honest but the guy on the rolling road had never done a coupe before and not convinced he really set it up that well.

Not really sure what to make of the graphs so would appreciate any advice and comments if everything is as it should be.

Thanks

Why didn't he back off when it was running lean?

He didnt seem to know what the fueling should be on the coupe tbh, is that low then? Should I be looking at a walbro fuel pump and wiring mod to cure that?

Fuelling: AFR should be lower than for any turbo car. Mine ran in the high 11's. That's also why you're not making the power you thought you should.

Try a different chip before getting a bigger fuel pump and wiring mod.

Cheers, when you say a different chip what would you suggest as it has the Gtec 1, would it need a GTEC 2 or is there another alternative?

Not all Gtec1's are the same. You can get higher fuelling versions.

I organised a rolling road day at SRR a while back and some people found that the standard chip they had gave better fuelling than the Gtec1.

Oh that's running lean, you want to try get that sorted before giving it the beans (and now its getting hotter it will be worse)
I would do the wiring mod as its not too expensive and is recommended anyway.
But like kenno says, some gtec1 chips run lean in some cars, so might be best to get the high fuel version and also try the stock chip.
If i remember correctly Flea (fc performance) told me it should be between 11.5 and 12.5 (closer to 11.5 for reliability)
It will run alot sweeter and you might get abit more power too (sometimes running abit leaner can give better power but at the risk of engine damage)

It's too lean, you wouldn't run a NA car that lean as a rule. For a standard boosted car 11.8 -12.2 would be acceptable on good fuel i.e 97+. Running 13.2 to 5000rpm is very poor and 12.8 at the top is no better, it's asking for trouble, the ecu will be retarding the ignition timing i.e. less power, but there is a limit especially when the temps get up.

The solution, well it shouldn't be "that" lean on a G-Tec chip so I would think there is something else going on i.e. stretched throttle cable, temp sensor, injectors tired. Then again it may not be an accurate reading, a blowing exhaust (it would have to be very bad beyond 3000rpm) can affect AFR readings but never to that degree and they normally drop to where they should be as the gas velocity increases.

Send me a pm if you need more advise smile

Thanks guys, its never simple with a coop is it! Will try the stock chip until I can get it sorted out. Its not likely to be the exhaust as I have just had that fitted.

Sounds like another trip to poweritalia, think I will have payed for Rog`s porche by the end of all this work!

Well you wouldn't, ergo for a turbo car it's not kosher wink

hi neil,

so many people have fuelling issues with plug and play chips. You should consider getting it mapped properly, the car will feel a lot smoother and will be quicker overall, not to mention it will fuel near pefectly.

To be honest, going to a rolling road that doesnt know coupes is a little pointless IMO. Flea will map it for you, give him a call or PM and he can give you ideas of a price.

Regarding your power figure, remember the GTEC is quoted at between 20-30bhp increase. you have 22 bhp more, so certainly not a bad result, and another RR might show 255bhp.

Why did they only go to 6000 rpm?

All good advice. Remember also, you don't know what it was making before you installed the chip. It may well have been 212bhp and so mean you've gained the full 30bhp.

Torque is very good though, even if it comes sn a little late for a near standard car. Are you running a PRV for boost control as that might help bring down the boost threshold.

F****** b****** thing...

because a standard turbo wont gain more power after that - they would have seen it tailing off. Also with it running that lean they might have done so for safety.

you can get anything from 20bhp to 40 bhp with a gtec chip. Dont worry about the extra 10bhp, but do worry about the fuelling. get that sorted and then see what it is making - far better to have the car running safe than have 250bhp for 10 mins or so.

Okay. I have always pushed the engine to the limit. I just want to see the torque/AFR graph all the way.

Sure - but if it is running lean then you run the risk of a great big oily mess!

Hi yes running a PVR. Very happy with the way the car drives and sounds and cant wait to get it mapped in a couple of weeks so the car is fully sorted and will be smoother and fullfilling its potential.

Bouncy123 is sorting me the flagship Clifford system with all the toys next week to keep the coupe safe from any scumbags who take a fancy now Ive spent all my dosh.

5.5k later after buying and sorting out everything Ill finally be happy!
