My coupe was hit in the rear whilst I was stationary at traffic lights, almost 3 weeks ago, pushing me lightly into the car in front.

Good news; minor paint crazing on the front bumper.

Bad news; It has been declared beyond economical repair by the asessor who called at home to look at it. The strange thing is he was agreeing with me to resist any type of categorised loss and that the value he was working on would be around £3250. The insurance company then come back saying that he has valued the car at £2200 and a category C loss.

I have already obtained an estimate from Fullbridge restoration in Maldon, Essex, as they have done work restoring my Triumph Stag, which amounts to £1890 labour (50 hours) plus parts, VAT etc.

The rear damage is the bumper and impact pad behind, the rear valance needs to be replaced and the n/s rear wing has been pushed in about a quarter of an inch where it meets the boot lid with a very small crease on the top face. Also the boot lid is slightly creased at the lip and obviously out of allignment.

I had hoped to take payment in lieu, but it is becoming clear that may not even cover the labour charge. Advice please!
