after having my yellow 20vt for 3 yaers and spending £1000s on her as we do she developed a low oil pressure problem.

started fault finding the problem to the limits of my tool box and abalities it went to my local garage/rally specalist.

did a secondary oil test and the gauges/electrical all working fine and the block had low oil pressure, turns out it wasnt the dreaded bottem end bearings but.....

he dropped the sump out and found alloy swarf and like a metal grinding paste in the bottom, looks like the sprocket thats on the end of the balance shaft that connects the chain to the oil pump is lose and the chain has been whipping around and causing the damage, the pump also seems to be damaged due to it!

so whats cost effictive? £313+vat for a pump from fiat and then the labour cost on an engine done 107k? around £700
and the damage to the balance shaft if the sprocket has spun? one big can of worms!

ARRRRRRRRGHHHHHHH, i dont even drive the car as my daily havnt for 12months and now this. ive had enough of yellow so im buying julians. cant not be without a coop!

so if it wasnt for all you guys and the effort from everyone id have chopped it up and cut my losses and not got another one, but i cant do it

Good to hear your not leaving the coupe fold and Julians coupe seems perfect for you, did like the yellow on black theme on your coupe tho.

Sorry to here about your coupe.
I've always wondered if it would be worth searching out a motor from a crashed coupe, that has been written off because of panel damage.I would have thought doing a transplant would be cheaper than major engine work.

Also just interested to know if your engine modified or standard ?

similar engine millage wise,£600 ish then a cambelt + pump and the labour to fit looking around £500 plus transport costs around say £1200,

mines rusting quite bad around the rear arches and sills so its just not cost effictive

I haven't heard of this problem happening before. It can't be that common can it?

I am worried about mine going bang now.

this never happens. Rest assured its a one off.

As for coupes always needing money spending on them, that is only true of cars that havent been looked after.

They are actually very reliable.

You can trust him, he's a midwife tongue

Changing clutch cylinder (master or slave) shouldn't effect the running of your motor
crazy

Bad luck yellow20vtbmx frown glad to see you're not quitting though smile
