Hi guys,

Yesterday drove my coupe to work. Was running fine, good oil pressure, coolant temp ok ect ect.

Then when i started it up to come home it had a terrible misfire, like it was only running on 2 cylinders... was smoking loads of white smoke out the back, and i mean loads!!

Had no choice but to drive it home and watched the coolant temp rise right up (120) so i switched the heater on full but no hot air would come out?!

After stopping at this point and switching it off so as not to warp the head. I noticed the coolant tank was empty and after taking off the oil fill cap there was smoke comin out of there too.

After waiting for it to cool down, which it did very quickly, i finished my journey and just about made it home along with alot of putt putting from the exhaust and enough smoke to embarress Del boy!!

Once home after it had cooled down again, i checked the dipstick and it was a milky colour,so obvioulsy i think the head gaskets gone.
But there was no bang or any hard drivin, i had simply started it after work and it was like this?
I can see no oil/coolant leaking from anywhere, including the block, rad and underneath the car??
When i fill up the coolant tank it just drinks all the fluid i put in but i can't see where its going? Its definetely not leakin out anywhere frown

Anyone who can diagnose this would be a great help, i'm sure its the head gasket but can't see any leaks and don't understand why it would just go like that, and as for the heaters just stopping workin i'm a bit stumped?!

Cheers Keef

If you're putting water in and can't see it coming out, i would look down your spark plug holes and maybe drain the oil, as i bet it's filling the block up with water

Like begbie says, pull out the sump plug, I suspect you will get a mixture of oil and water out

I am expecting that, its definetely the head gasket. No question of that....

Only thing i don't get is why there was no hot air coming out of the heater??

If its burning all the water from the head gasket leaking then its probably not getting any water upto the heater matrix. But it could also be a big airlock in the heater matrix due to all the water going from the system.
Once the head gasket is changed ( you will need to have the head skimmed as it would have warped getting upto 120degrees) and the air bleed out the system you will get the heater back.

Ok guys, thanks.

Will get a quote for the work today. If its too much will just sell it for spares.

If anyone's interested in it for spares let me know, full leather a/c in metallic steel grey and everything apart from the engine is good!!

Lol..
