Our next door neighbours have a bungalow, and last year had all the ridge tiles repointed. Unfortunately the mortar is now dropping off, and after heavy rain I quite often see 3-4" pieces on the driveway - obviously having slid down the roof and bounced off their cars. I havent noticed any dings, but would never want to park any of my cars there!!

Not really coupe but - One of my friends has a garage at a nice marina in Portsmouth, one of his friends had bought her other half an Aston Martin DB9 for his birthday. She asked to hide it my mates unused garage. no problem hardly anything in it. In went the DB9. He opened the garage later to see that a ladder from the roof had fallen off and landed on the new Aston!! Luckily friend of a friend paint shop did a perfect job of tidying the mess. Thats bad luck.

Hmm. An Uno Turbo disaster?: I had the car on axle stands on the driveway, as I needed to work on the suspension on the UT. All was fine, and went indoors for lunch, hear a massive racket outside, and ran out to find my sheepish looking neighbour around the UT, which was now propped up on only one stand on it's offside rear. Havng fallen off the others, as the neighbour had been leaning on the car. That said, there was hardly any damage, just a coupe of scrapes under the bumpers, and I was pretty glad that I hadn't been underneath the car when it had happenned, as I'd obviously not put them on properly, if it fallen so easily...

My dad was working on a customers car outside the garage. His customer screamed, he sat up.
Another car had beenreversing and not seen the car or my dad! His head was squashed inbetweeen the bumpers of each car.
Other than pretty bad shock he was unharmed!
Pretty damn close to a disaster if you ask me!
Oh and he didn't hear the end of it for weeks!

I don't like axle stands - they scare me. I had a car one once (about 20 years ago now) it was a big heavy Aussie V8 Ford. Anyway I had the axle stands under the front wishbones and it fell off. No damage, but I haven't used axel stands since. I realise I was using them the wrong way, but it not like they come with an instruction manual - you find out you're doing it wrong when the car falls off. I much prefer ramps for getting under a car. They feel so much safer.

I always use axle stands, they are fine as long as the car is on level firm ground, the wheels are chocked, and the are on a strong part of the car. I don't like ramps, as they are usually too steep and scrape the bumpers, they are also heavy and bulky compared to stands. And I didn't even mention the difficulty in getting the wheels off with the car on ramps.
