Has anyone tried fitting an anti-lag valve to a coop, you know the ones that send huge balls of flame coming out of the exhaust like rally cars? Latest edition of redline has a small piece on them. Wonder if anyone on here had tried one?

read this:

http://www.wrc-cosworth.org/tech/tuning/antilag.html

In short there is a lot more to it than adding a valve. hardly suprising that Redline has a SMALL piece on them....I thought all the technical info they provided was peak power figures and whether a car has a HUUUUUUGE turbo or not. Respect, innit. laugh

Nah Redline's not bad really. The only mags I ever buy are Redline and PPC.
IIRC, Stav explained exactly how it all worked. Matey must have not read it properly! laugh laugh

Agree with the "big turbo" thing though. Turbos get bigger every issue!

2 friends have it fitted one on evo8 but the turbo is not up to it , he will cook it

another has it fitted to escort cossie with 600+ bhp
this has a marin(spelling ?) shaft fitted to turbo to take heat etc from anti lag

it is good and very loud on both cars , but the cossie has external waste gate and screamer pipe

basicly unless you spend lots you will cook blow something

In short.....

Why do you want it? - you will only really benefit from anti lag for racing or 1/4 miles/launching etc, tight circuits where the cars needs to be kept on boost. If your not doing any racing and its just for show.... then its a bit of waste. There are exceptions to this rule, aftermarket ECUs often have these sort of things built in anyway.

Do you have lots of cash? - Antilag kills turbos fairly quickly. If you'd like to rebuild your turbo every once in a while then knock yourself out.

I've done some work on my mates evo 9 which runs about 400bhp. The standard engine has an ALS built in, but its not activated. There is an accumulator pump that gets boost from just before the throttle and has piping to vent it into the exhaust manifold. This might have been to comply with GroupN (or is it Group A) rallying - i.e built it into the standard car but don't activate it.

The evo boys have found out how to activate it now smile

Do you have a specually made turbo charger to work with this valve and cope with extreme temps that anti lag causes.

WRC turbos and rallycross turbos are made from better material than a road car turbo.Thats whay they cost a fortune and even then they dont last long.

So go ahead and cook and destroy your road car turbo if thats what you want to do.

This is anti lag on my mechanics 600bhp saloon car series Evo 6 race car.

This is testing of the anti lag system and setup on the car,not the extrem heat, flames and stress that anti lag puts on the car.

He also runs the same anti lag setup on his 1000bhp GTR trackday car with a GT 4202R hybrid turbo.

This steup and car is so good that it set a record time of 59 seconds around Mondello Park race track. No one has managed to beat this time.

A T04Z turbo is a big turbo,800bhp spec.

But its small when compared to the big daddy GT4202R turbo which is a 1200bhp spec turbo.

Also anti lag is not for a road car.

Unless you have the money to replace turbos on a regular basis and do big engine services and and tune ups on a regular basis then anti lag is a no no for a road car,and especially not for an engine that has not been strengthened aswell.Same goes for the turbo, putting anti lag on a standard turvo setup is like using a chocolate firegaurd, its will last seconds before it melts.

I have run a low boost anti-lag setup on a standard t3 turbo in a escort RS turbo, this was running 7psi at idle when switched on, that turbo lasted more than a year and was still working when I sold the car but it was not used all the time only when it was needed, the weak point is the shaft and bearings, you want a maram247 shaft and they are reletivly reliable after that

All in all I would not recomend doing it unless you have a decent turbo and a well built and tuned engine

It can make a massive difference and one car sticks in my mind, it was a freinds escort cosworth with wrc everything, that was running nearly 2 bar boost at idle and when you dumped the clutch you really new about it, quite impressive by anyones standards
