the current conversion comprises of a stilo crank in a coupe block with shorter rods and lower compression hight pistons to compensate for the extra stroke that the stilo crank gives

My understanding is that the stilo block cannot be used for 2 reasons, 1. It's not got the stengthning that the coupe block has 2. it's taller and as such the bonnet will not close


It's also worth mentioning that the rod to stroke ratio changes for the worse and because you are trying to cram so much capacity into a short block it limits how low you can go with your compression ratio and to high in my opinion


It's not an easy conversion and involves a lot of for thought and work to make work, there are some compremises in the few 2.4 conversion that I would not be happy with, saying that they seem to work quite well

Tricky,

Most of that is not true!

The stilo block does fit in a coupe with a little playing about. It was thought to not because it was too tall and thus the 20v non-turbo did not get the 2.4 that was available in the Lancia Kappa. However it turns out it does fit.
The block itself is as strong as the coupe block - the main problem is that you have to go 83.5mm and so there is nowhere to go if you damage the block. The block is as strong because it is the same block - there are only two differences - first there is no turbo oil feed (because it has not been drilled or tapped) and secondly it has more material at the top of the stroke (i.e. is taller).

Stilo blocks are very very rare which is more the reason why the coupe block was used.

You can get 8.5:1 in the 20VT block in a 2.4 conversion. Modern ECUs and availability of better fuel mean it is pointless going 8.5:1 in this day and age.

The compromises are mainly that you have to use a bigger turbo and you have to have portwork as otherwise the engine will choke above 5,500-6,000rpm. Therefore there are a lot of additional costs associated with it.

With regard to the block I was working with what I had been told rather than what found out my self but thank you for clearing that up for me

I have a couple of points to discuss regarding the 2.4 conversions and would like your input but I'm a bit short on time at the moment so I post up some details later

oddly enuf its the off boost driveability i love, however my current turbo is just too restricted at higher rpm ( above 4k ) it doesn't like it at present.

I actually went for a very laggy free 0.64 turbine housing, which is just too small, I get ful boost at about 2-2.2k perhaps, no lag as far as i can tell ( maybe Flea can comment more ).

I'm waiting to swap out to a 0.86 turbine housing, coupled with a large MAF housing, I think hopefully this will release a lot more torque & hopefully som more ponies.

I am very conscious that above 400hp, the existing gearboxes will have a short lifespan, so am not prepared to replace boxes like Flea does !! laugh

The real key is to go external wastegate as internally w/g just don't cut it cry
