Has anyone any experience of using one of these devices that transmits the ipods output on an FM frequence and you just tune your car stereo into that frequence and bobs your uncle!!

I don't have aux input in my current car but use an iTrip and it's fantastic.

I had (have) one and it was never much good. Very very low power indeed, as in, it's ok if you keep it in the ashtray right under the radio, but no real transmission distance at all. Also the battery life is dire - expect about an hour from a pair of AAAs before the fuzzy signal means you have to replace them (although I believe the actual iTrip is powered by the iPod itself?). Also the one I have is on frequencies between 88.1 and 88.9 and this does get affected by radio stations sometimes.

Oh, and they're illegal to use in the UK

Great idea, just a shame they don't really seem to deliver.

It's a marmite thing. I have an iTrip. It does work off (and use up more quickly) the ipods internal power. It works okay sending a signal room-to-room, or outdoors, at home, but it annoyed me in the coop with a very high-pitched background noise. Didn't work at all in the OH's Scenic.

I use a £2,99 cassette adaptor from Tesco which does the job nicely

Mind you, the chances of getting caught with the low transmission power are negligible - unless you regularly carry Plod and his scanner round in the back seat

- if you've got a cassette player in the car! My original HU only had CD, not cassette, so that was never an option.

i had the same tape adapter until yesterday when i bought the CDX-GT300 si with the ipod lead..

Now i connect direct to my ipod which is hidden in the glove box. I can control it through the stereo or the remote, the sounds is 10x better and it charges it at the same time.

145 quid from from Halfrauds

Starsky

What HU do you have as you can buy some adapters that will food the Head Unit into thinking your Ipod is a CD changer and take an aux input.
