I've just bought a 1997 20vt on Wednesday and I'm loving it!

However, it has no key fobs and the alarm has been disconnected by the previous owner (the standard siren & sensors are still present).

I don't care too much about having an alarm (it doesn't seem to affect the insurance premium much) but I would like remote locking!

Would I have to replace the alarm in order to get remote locking, or can I get replacement fobs? I have the Red Key but no code card - I think code cards were only issued with later models anyway.

You might have a scorpion or Meta alarm. For the meta one contact abacus alarms. There are quite a few posts below about the same thing.
Best bet if you want an alarm is to get a toad and connect it to the cl system. Quite easy too IIRC
