i was under the impression that a standard turbo wouldnt last long with that setup especially with a decat. could be wrong though......

Some do some dont, but I would have thought if the exhaust was going to knacker it it would have done so by now so I'd just leave it.
If you do need a new turbo in the future make sure it has staggered oil seals and a 360 degree thrust bearing.

im wondering if it has this already but not sure. the car was modified by a previous owner and the bloke i bought it off knew nothing about it as he got it as a p/x and sold it to me. it has a fmic, ti chip, aquamist but this is not running, and obviously the exhaust system so could have had the turbo tinkered with. is there anyway to tell???

Did yours have the staggered seals though? That's what is important when running decat, 360 bearing helps it cope better with higher boost. Of course, it has to be done to a high standard, no spec will be any good if a cowboy's done the work.

my old porto had a 3inch system running a standard turbo and it lasted a couple of years for me, it had been running a supersprint de-cat for ages before that too and only gave up at about 120k. where did you get your coupe from??

i bought it off a lad in heartlepool. he really didnt have a clue about it. he said it was the fastest car he had driven but when we checked the boost it was only running about 0.4bar! he didnt even know what we were on about when we said the boost was turned right down lol. we cranked it up to test the clutch and his face was a picture.:)

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum but ive read loads of your responses. I need a little advice, i've just bought a coop 20v turbo ad its a dream to drive, but this thread has me worried! the previous owner told me it has a 3'' exaust straight through but it has a standard turbo, does this mean that the turbo isnt going to last? and how do i check the boost? i'm sorry if these you've answered these questions before, but i'm really new to the world of coops and especially turbos (all my previous cars have benn NA) so i'd be grateful for any advice.. thanx
