I have a Fiat Coupe Plus, and the previous owner had it lowered. I'd really like to get the car raised back to standard, as (in my opinion) driving a lowered Coupe is for masochists only!
The ride is horrible, I'm always sweating any time i go any place new incase they have kerbs slightly higher than normal, and the final straw was when i couldn't even get the car onto the ramps to fit a new tyre coz the car was so low!
My question is, what do people think about used/second hand Springs? I'm tempted to get them as they are a lot cheaper than buying 4 brand new standard Springs, however i don't know what the negatives would be of having used Springs.
Everyone says you should always buy the best tyres that you can afford and never get used ones. Does that also apply to Springs?

Hi Dave,

I have been buying used motorcycle tires for the past 2 years, probably 4-5 sets and all has been fine. It really depends on the condition that the tyres are in.

Considering springs, i am buying a set of used Intrax shocks + springs tonight. Springs that are on the car for say 80k are ofcourse less vital than brand new ones. It really depends on yourself, sometimes people on the forum offer springs that are used ,10k miles for half the price.

If you dont mind taking the gamble and save yourself some money you can consider buying used springs.
If you want to be sure its all super-good and want warrenty on your products, buy new.

I think less vital or having less vitality is a valid discription.

Vital as in; forceful,energetic,or lively:

Infact quite discriptive of a worn spring.

Warnysouth- see me after class nono

swiftpete, if you're serious about the trade then sure i'm up for it!
Though i really feel i should warn u that if u get your Coupe lowered, you will have 3 things instantly happen:
1) Never drive anywhere new ever again unless you want a nice big dent in your bumper.
2) Never drive faster than 30mph unless you want a sore bum going over the smallest bumps.
3) Never go to a garage ever again coz the car is too low to get onto the ramps.
smile

is it just front lowering springs you have?
as you have kyb shocks i recon just change the springs to standard and then the kyb will still lower the car by 25mm.
i am after some springs for my koni shocks if you fancy a swap.
