Today, for the first time in 2 years of ownership, my coop beeped at me.

It was an 'electronic' beep when I opened the door to get out. It then made the same beep when I closed the door and also flashed the hazards, which I assume it did when I opened the door.

I locked the car with the key (see below) and everthing was normal. Unlock, open the door - beep, close the door - beep. Sometimes it was a short beep, sometimes a double beep, and once it was a long beep?

I assume that it is something to do with the alram, but the fob that came with the car doesn't work so I've never known what the car does when the alarm is turned on or off.

Anyone got any ideas or know what the beeping is?

Thanks

Hi there. Double beep is alarm disarm. Long beep is alarm armed. Err..short beep, I don't know. The hazard lights will flash as long as the beep sound. And there is a key switch in the glove compartment that allows you to turn on or off the alarm system. I bought my coop 2nd hand and never got the manual for the alarm system. So what I have described was by trial and error. Hopefully someone comes along and give you a complete reply. I hope that helps. Cheers!

Thanks for that enriq.

I can't understand why it's started doing it now though (even though it's stopped for the moment). I've never noticed a key in the glove box to enable/disable the alarm before but I'll have a look.

It's single short beeps when the doors open, double on closed and long beep after it's been left (locked) for about 30 seconds.

Very few UK cars have the key disabler as it was removed on the request of uk insurance companies. In late cars the key is there but i for disabling the passenger airbag.
