I have a potential plan!

Can anyone give me some rough dimensions, i.e. height from sump to top of Cam cover, cambelt to flywheel, and also width (Not too much of a problem)

Any idea of the weight also without any alternators/manifolds etc (Just block and cylinder head if poss)

I'm toying with the idea a converting my Fathers Kitcar, however I have a feeling the engine may be too heavy and long and upset the balance somewhat frown

Cheers all

Ben

Can't help you with the sizes, but I'm thinking of something similar involving a 700kg Quantum 2+2 and a 16vt...

Interesting Neil. My fathers 7 esque kit (Sylva Striker) has a tired Xflow in there at the moment, a zetec would probably be the expected upgrade path, however with 150 out of the box and hopefully a little more on a aftermarket ECU I reckon it would be an interesting upgrade.

Is it a xflow in your Quantum at moment? My biggest issue i believe would be finding a suitable gearbox / bellhousing combination that will fit.

No, it's a CVH 1.6 at the moment. Allegedly around 96bhp, feels like about 70, and I think the light weight of the kit is flattering to deceive. My coupe is quicker, without a doubt.

I'd expect on mine to replace the gearbox and lump, and cut'n'shut the halfshafts to be fiat at one end, ford at the other. The wheels are a shade smaller rolling radius, but not massively.

For a rwd, hmmm, dunno what would fit. The old 131 and suchlike were RWD; might be a box there that would do? Otherwise you're into fabricating a conversion plate between the two.

Mind you, as I discovered today I am *not* immediately to be made redundant, I think this may now be the bottom of the pile of things to do.

How bizarre, I have been thinking about this a lot reently too! My dad has just dropped a 2.0 litre Zetec into his Locost 7.

I was contemplating what gearbox etc would be suitable for the 20vt engine!

220bhp, not tuned, 650kg, awesome machine potentially.

How "difficult" would it be to fabricate a conversion plate?

Big slab of 1/4" mild steel with perhaps a bearing pressed into the middle and lots of holes in the right places?

Go for the 16VT engine and there are plenty of old fiats that are RWD to take a gearbox from.

Sound like an interesting project, have you ever considered a ZVH? Seems to be a fairly popular conversion (I think its a Zetec head on a CV block iirc)Is the Quantum based on a Fiesta? I'm certain I saw a purple one on the M5 tonight by pure coincidence!

I know they offered a Fiat Twincam as one of the original engine options for the Striker, by twin cam I don't know whether they meant the Coupe 16V engine? (Anyone know of any other Fiat twin cams, I think it may be around 1600CC) As to what box was used with that I don't know, however I do know the kit is based on a Mk2 escort with a live rear axle. Later kits are based on the Sierra with IRS.

Damn, sorry to hear that.

I want to avoid a turbo engine if possible, I know 200BHP in a 600KG car would make a weapon, however I wouldn't be happy with any lag and would prefer an N/A delivery in the Striker smile
