I set out to do a little coupe maintenance last week, I was replacing a wishbone bolt that had been pulled through by the lower brace and stripped out the thread in the captive nut.
A simple job to fit a £3 bolt...not so much !

Once the undertray was removed the horror of the oil cooler pipes condition was revealed in all it's flakey glory. A phone call to Alt Autos and £300 ligher a new oil cooler and pipes were on their way to me.

Right I thought, lets get everything sorted out in one go, so some softer Eibach ERS springs, a pair of new Bravo top mounts, new wishbones and drop links and new disks at the front.

Got it all finished at 11pm last night, spent the day sorting it out and also spent the best part of £550 on parts and how does my lovely coupe repay me ?

It dropped the bonnet on my head and not only once but twice I now have a bonnet striker shaped cut in my neck and bruise on the back of my head.

I think my cars adaped the old phrase "treat them mean, keep them keen" and its right, I'm now off to spend £40 on a wheel alignment for it.

How will she repay me for that ?

I don't know mate, but you see your passengers side front wheel over take you, Its important not to loose your cool and pull over as slowly and gently as possible

probably by throwing its aux belt taking your cambelt out bending all your valves !!!!!

Did you get the polybushes sorted Jimbo? I started taking my new ones appart last night (got 1 wishbone stripped down)

I already had polybushed ones fitted but I'm back on standard wishbones for now Chris, I want to remove the stripped out nut and tack a new one on, also noticed the rubber boot had split so I need a new one of those for the R/H wishbone.
Are you doing the safety mod that Barbz did on your wishbones ? I can send some pictures if you like ?

Good God, is that how much a genuine oil cooler costs?? A universal one only costs about 50 quid!!

These cars a sooo expensive unless you shop around for every single part or think laterally for clever alternatives. I think the only parts that you don't have to shop around for are brake pads - and even that probably doesn't count if you've got Brembos!

BTW Jimbo, you're obviously letting her treat you like a door mat. When she's starts acting up, give her a good hard thrashing - let her know who's the man in the relationship. That way she'll be grateful when you spend a bit of cash on her

Dunno. Last year mine rewarded me for getting all the belts done a year ahead of schedule by dumping the contents of a 2 year old oil cooler all over the road.

Well it didn't take long for it to repay me in kind (notice how I'm now calling it an *it* and no longer a she)

So how did the sh1t box repay me?

Pulling in towards my drive turning the car so I can reverse in, the engine cuts out, I lose power steering and bash my front right alloy right into the curb

I now have a large chunk out of the alloy I now declare I absolutely HATE this car

I don't think Jenny has ever seen me so angry with it !

I've just left it for now abandoned on the side of the road/drive, if I go near it I swear I will burn it.

not good mate :-( bloody cars are a proper pain. sometimes wish i wasn't interested in cars at all.

lets hope the alloy can be repaired.
