occasionally, normally in other threads, someone will bring up these, and describe a NEW coupe available in malaysia???

is this just a myth or could you feasably buy a BRAND NEW coupe over there?

well, i always wondered, and i think i started a thread about it before, if all coupes made, had been sold.

i guess its possible there may be a couple of new ones gathering dust somewhere, but malaysia??, surely somewhere in Italy?

Unused, rather than brand new. Skodaman managed to track them down, forget how many - fifteen-ish?, but I do remember the list included both a yellow and a Pearly White Plus.

i was in asda a coupe of weeks back. a nice old guy came up to me when i was paying for a ticket.
asked if i owned the green coupe while pointing at mine, i said yes and had about a 45 min chat with him. apparently he had brought one from malaysia and was thinking about getting it shipped over here.

There not really brand new i guess as he did say that his was built in 2000.....or something but only registered in 2008. still it only had like 5 miles on it when he apparently brought it. also apparently anything that wears with age is changed.... so anything rubber i guess seals ect.

Its not a myth. There used to be quite a few unsold units lying in some warehouse in Malaysia. I'm not sure on the exact details on why it was left unsold but i think it was something to do with registration issues. They were all Plus models.

I think they are all sold now though.

there are 'new' as in old but unused coops in KL, but to bring them back is incredibly expensive, due to taxes, circa £25k+

Cars in Malaysia are generally more expensive anyway due to our 200% import tax.

I think the last few units were sold in the region of 100k Ringgit (pretty cheap for a 'new' euro imported car by malaysian standards). So 100,000 ringgit would equate it to about £17k anyway. Add shipping and UK taxes to it, well over £20k

Try your luck at Torino Motor Industries in Kuala Lumpur.
Sales and Marketing: marketing@myfiat.com.my

Apparently back in 2006 they had 44 2000, and 14 2001 units in stock.
In August 2008: merely two shocked

Google secondhand and the first two to come up are:
Yellow Plus
Pearly White Plus

Nice to see they're still maintaining a premium - both around the 10k mark

I'm in KL in October. If anyone wants me to do any research on their behalf, I'd be more than happy to help.

Planning on staying in Malaysia for 2 or 3 days.

Cheers, Hedge

Yes, and I'll pay you when you manage to get it registered in the UK.....and there is the problem! They no longer meet the required specs for Euro-boxes so they (the unregistered ones if they still exist) can't get through the admin frown

I believed it is all sold out for now.
You can get them as "new" 2000 or 2001 models.
They'll change all the rubber parts for ya...

Dont see the point of buying a car that has been sat rusting for 9 years.

Better off buying a plus as new as you can find, getting a full respray, leather retrim, new engine and still having change.

It wouldn't really be an 09 plate anyway as It would of been built 9 or so years ago. I think too( i think) it wouldn't be a 09 plate once its been shipped over as the car would have to be imported over and have different plates on. I could be wrong though
