Well guys, I think I know...
I'm driving it. Andy sold it to me without disclosing any of the back story - I only found out about it shortly after buying it from him and hit the [censored] roof!!! (Although to be fair, the V5 clearly shows that the car is 'Accident damaged and/or substantially repaired; identity checked 21/02/06)
Suffice to say, I got on to him immediately and got 1/3 of my money back after very nearly taking him to the small claims court. I must say that his cavalier attitude and lack of honesty made me quite cross as it flew in the face of his intentions as outlined in the original thread.
I think that Liam gave him a substantial sum of money back and Andy sailed on into the sunset. He said he only sold the car because he 'owed the taxman'... hmmmmmm.
I never saw the photos of the written-off damaged car: by all accounts it was a horror story, but I tell you what...
I've had this car for nearly 2 years, I've put it through 2 very thorough MOT tests at govt. run facilities (the only ones available in Northern Ireland), it's been gone over by at least 3 mechanics who I would trust implicity. They all spotted straight away the fact that the car had been pranged and repaired, but could find no fault with any of it. It has passed its MOT without any issues both times, and I've driven it over some very rough/lumpy country roads (I now live in a very rural area) without mishap. It doesn't go round in circles only (I enjoyed this comment from the original thread) and even outperforms my partner's 2.0l Celica (now departed). The thing would appear to be 100% rock-solid and reliable - I use it daily...
I'm a bit sheepish about this car's past and the vehemence with which it was castigated, but I've driven worse...
Now, if someone could post the original wreck pics, I would be most interested, because someone spent time and money to get this back to spec about 6 years ago - as far as I can tell it was written off with about 26k on the clock - it's now on 64k and still going strong.
Now chaps, be gentle with me...
