From my expirience stiffer mounts can give you vibration if they been forced to fit , however competition mounts arent for comfort , but must have a play a little bit.
GTSEBO@-I'm in manchester and have all mounts of the car at the moment , if you bring your coop i can compare mounts .

@Tipboy – I’m not really sure what you are asking. A stiffer mount will be uncomfortable to drive every day there is still compliance on a stiffer mount but a lot less. Having a solid mount would send vibrations throughout the car. The compliance dampens of these frequencies. The fast road should be as smooth as OE feel but the material is of higher quality.

@knight7660 - The remaining two mounts should be with me Monday to test so I am looking to close the GB once I have approved them.

I'm pondering changing my choice to fast road as I knock up a lot of miles for work (450 over the weekend alone) and am wondering if I should tone down my appetite for 'ultimate balls-out competition' gear just this once...

UPDATE:

Ok fitted all three mounts today. Had a few issues with bolt lengths but noting major I know what needs to change. The main design of the mounts are perfect and I am happy with the quality and fitment. The car feels pretty much the same as before as my mounts were in good nick. I can’t say I can feel any discomfort. This fast road material feels the same as Fiat OE laugh . I am fully happy to close this GB and proceed with the current design.

Thanks for sorting these. I have sorted mine out today, can't wait to receive the mount.

One thing is I don't understand is how switching to a stud will help support a greater load. Surely it's just the shear strength of the bolt / stud that's in question?

Also I believe that the stud used to replace is too long. It should be flush with the top of the nut to be in saftey. I think it may may flex and work it's way loose over time.

Good observation and good questions.

1) The tensile strength of the bolt was never in question it was the aluminium threads that held the bolt in that failed. The original design uses two bolts to piece the mount together just like the OE Fiat mount, this design gave the top bolt only 10mm of thread engagement on the aluminium plate. We tried to change the thread to a finer 1.25 but there were still concerns so removing this short bolt and running a 120mm bolt all the way through was the only way to ensure full engagement of aluminium thread rather than two lots of thread from either side. This method ensures the bolt is fully engaged with the complete 50mm length of thread and is torqued up with threadlock so that it can hold its true tensile strength of 8.8.

2) We originally planned for the bolt to be the correct length but due to the revision a bolt of 110mm was first used this was far too short as the nut didn’t reach the nylock. The next size up is 120mm (we wanted 115mm), remember that there are standards to bolt sizing. This excess of 5mm of thread poking out is nowhere near an issue. The nut supplied is a nylock nut and will not come loose. The stud will not be prone to bending as the mount is only loaded in the vertical direction hence the OE plate bending and not the bolt.

When you hold one of these bad boys in your hands you will clearly see the improvement laugh

Great answers! If your happy then I'm happy!

Once again thanks for arranging all this. Looking forward to fitting and enjoying the benifits.

As per the the GB thread, had mine fitted at VT today but thought I'd keep comments etc. to this thread.

First of all great service, they quoted £50 fitting and I was there for most of the day but no quibbles, £50 fitting is what was charged. Cups of coffee during the day always welcome too smile

Observations during the day. These new parts look the dogs danglies. It really did seem a shame to bolt them to the car and get them dirty, they really are great items. Enough of the product porn...

The mounts that came off my car were doubtless the originals. Rear garbox was bent, I see now what the 'bent plate' description means.

Drivers side mount was absolutely shot. Rubber had split, and the rubber section itself had come away from the surrounding metal mount. It couldn't have been much worse. I had had banging on hard acceleration and it seems this was the culprit. Had a peruse of Nobby's fitting guide while there and it seems a loosening in any way of this mount causes impact on the driveshaft, so not good.

Passenger side item, the head snapped off the main bolt throught the mount during removal, that bad boy did not want to come out at all, but John drilled this out so no sweats. Not in bad nick neccesarily, but still in need of replacement.

The one thing I would take from the removal is that owners who have chosen not to go for this GB should still consider changing the mounts, Coupes are building in age and I imagine many will be like this now. My drivers side mount was not far from evaporating into thin air.

So new ones on. Increase in vibration on my car is negligible. Steering wheel, body, can't decide if I can tell a difference, slight buzz through pedals, though very slight. Nothing annoying.

Not possible to test under hard acceleration because my car refuses to creep above 0.6 bar at the moment frown so no way of telling if the banging has gone, but I know it will have. I think the car feels better and gearchanges feel that bit more precise, possibly the placebo effect we all know and love. Engine mounts aren't the most exciting mod in the world, but I'm glad to have the peace of mind knowing that when boost does go back up, everything will be held nicely in place. I've also had the poly-bushed top stabilizer bar mod so that's the engine mounting all done now smile

This is exactly what happens to all three of the mounts most will find the same issues when fitting theirs.

Yep, the drivers side mount had moved so violently that the cup that holds it underneath, you'll know what I mean if you've seen this mount, had been bent open. Instead of the two upward parts pointing upwards like a letter U, it looked more like the top part of a Y, and made it more tricky to fit. Once tightened up, it pulled it back in of course.

After the drive to work this morning, the car feels smoother and gearchanges are definitely nicer, more precise and I'm sure the shunt that used to accompany them has gone.

Many thanks again for this J smile

Yep I have found that the gear stick now easily selects 1st and second and self centers. Unexpected but very welcome improvement! Thanks!

I saw these mounts at Mallory park on saturday, they look the part.

I have an Alfa 145 and thought my mounts would be the same but the front gearbox one you have is different to mine, looking at EPER the pics look like the drivers side engine mount on both sides, on both cars, the Coupe and the 145.

Do both these front mounts hang from under the chassis legs?

On the front gearbox mount, what bracket attaches to it? does anyone have a pic of one?

I missed the GB but i did order a rear mount on sat.

Cheers.
