Just looking for some advice from those in the know.

I've gotten to the point where I've got all the supporting mods needed to start thinking about upgrading the turbo. My current turbo is smoking like a trooper, i have a spare that I could send away or the option to get a dif turbo all together.

I'm not really chasing figures, just after the go to match the rest of the car. Can this be achieved by a fettling of the spare turbo or is there a sensibly priced alternative?

If any replies could be worded suitably for a northern simpleton it'd much appreciated wink

if your near leeds try www.turbocentreuk.co.uk they did a t34 upgrade on my turbo with 360 thrust bearing and twin staggered seals with a enlarged compressor side, They should have my spec turbo on file and is a ace upgrade for the 16vt

You have to remember that James is running an 8v engine, so a T34 might be slightly over kill, since he is missing 8 valves laugh I think your best bet would be maybe trying to get hold of a turbo of a 16v integrale

Cheers for the info guys, trying to do a bit of investigation on Evocorner at the mo to see what the 8v guys do.

As for the missing 8 valves (cheeky sod!) there seem to be plenty of 8v grales running well over 300bhp - its just more of a chalenge wink

Also been reading that 16vt injectors would help if going for a bit more power along with a tubular manifold. Anything else I'd need to add to the shopping list?

I have 16v injectors somewhere, but would need an overhaul first

I have a set of 16VT injectors that have been cleamed and flow matched, and hardly used. PM me if you are interested.

8V or 16V, it wont make much difference to the turbo choice. The compressor will just be working in a slightly different part of the map.

Stock Integrale 8V actually uses a larger factory Garrett T3/4 turbo than the 16V.

I'm not sure if ming will be larger as the engine was originally out of a Dedra. I know it had a refurbed turbo at some point though the history is in German. I'll have to dig it out over the weekend and see if I can find any more info.

Could well be interested in a set of injectors just want to get some other bits n bobs sorted 1st.

Dedra would have the "normal" size turbo, i.e. T3 same as a Coupe 16VT.

So an 8v Delta turbo would be an upgrade in theory? Is there a way of checking what the turbo fitted is if I find any docs on it?

yup and after owning a 8v punto gt i know a bigger turbo wont be over kill as i ran a bigger turbo on my gt than the 20vt's standard, a t34 with a 4 branch manifold would be nice spool up maybe around 4k revs but with more punch .... or try a 20vt t28 hybrid turbo

8V Integrale turbo would be bigger, make more power but there are better hybrids available these days. Any of the turbos used on the 16V engines will work almost virtually the same on an 8V, but they will of course produce slightly less power.

I have owned a 16VT and an 8VT. At the same boost with the same turbo the 8VT actually made slightly more power. The 16VT was stock, 8VT had 130TC cams, SIP, FMIC, exhaust etc. The 8VT was quite long in the tooth too, low on compression.

Integrale has a large T04 size compressor with a bolt on inlet flange. I suspect you have the standard T3 size compressor which has a push on hose inlet (with hose clamp). Just have a look if you can see.

Thanks for the info, after a quick check it looks like the its the standard T3 size compressor.

Is there a rule for what will and wont fit, or do most things fit with some modifying.

If I were to go for a newer hybrid turbo what else would I need to support it?

you can get any thing to fit mate, just a case of how much time/money you have to spend.

for a newer hybrid turbo, i guess the supporting mods would be FMIC and a map as a minimum requirement!

also, just so you know mate ive got a mint T25 hybrid sitting in my garage...

interested??

T25 would need a change of manifold for a start, as the 16vt use a T3 flange

I would go for a GT28RS, they come with a T3 flange too ...

Cheers for the info again guys. The cars going up to Joes for a health check before I splash out on a new turbo.

Can running with out cats cause problems with certain turbos?

Doesn't really affect the 16v's as much, as if you think, the integrale (earlier ones) never ran with a CAT in place

Thats what I figured - my engines never run a CAT, just wondered if more modern turbos were designed to run with them?

Cheers mate, looks like I'll be going down that route then getting it mapped.

Are old turbos any use to anyone? I've at least 2 of the buggers sat in the shed.
