Mine has a 10mm steel plate! >=D mwahahah now THAT'S overkill... is is it jsut overengineering? Supli-mental: I've got that engine mount off at the moemnt, are there any clearance issues with the 10mm thick plate? Cause I'm going to have a go at making one tomorrow depenging on the availability of material.

hi mate mine is a 5 mm plate and i have no clearence issues, use stainless steel not mild steel as its structure is stronger therefore acting like a much stronger support, im also in the process of fabrication a alloy insert to slide in the drivers side engine mount, (under chassis leg) to again cushion any access unwanted movement.

Just taken mine off and it’s also bent to fccuk so much so that the driveshafts knock on the subframe bolts and the viscous coupling hits my H&S downpipe, guess santa pod takes its toll. It has also bent the part where the two 13mm blots go so I could hammer it back but would prefer a new mount. Keithc do you have a spare 5mm plate as I don’t have time to make one? As for the driver’s side mount, Barbz sells the proper uprated mount I have one and it’s the dogs.

I've never done things like santa poo's but mine were a little bent anyway. I hammered it out to flat, and pulled some lines with welder, then cooled quick in water to harden a little. Here's the Result!

I have found company that can make uprated mounts. Has anyone got any good pics of the other mounts that need uprating as I would like to send them an image to get an idea of prices?

Told a small porkey,my plate is actually 8mm(still bloody thick). There are no clearance issues, but you might need a longer bolt! My car was std and the mount had bent,i think its just poor design not to do with being a modified car.

So far so good. Regarding the rear gearbox mount we are looking at an “estimated retail” price of £70. The next step is to send up the OE mounts for final confirmation of price. To put this into prospective those that are interested in a proper mount you couldn’t buy these new from Fiat for near that price so it will be a good investment. Once I receive the prototype to test if successful I can offer GB prices for all to benefit from.

Thanks B but for the mean time I am looking at the other two mounts, this mount could be a future upgrade if required. If you want to get this mount made for yourself then PM me.

I have managed to send off both mounts (Gearbox & Drivers Side) to the mounting company. They will be looking into these over the next few days and should have a draft design and pricing for me on Monday to review.

I'll note my interest in a rear mount here, incase I miss it when it comes round on the GB forum.

guys chill out, when its GB time i'll let you know, i haven't even got a draft technical drawing yet. There are many steps to be done before the product becomes final, GB will be the last thing.

Something like this: Rough quote from images Send OE part for analysis Design "uprated version" to match my requirements Review drawings Redesign any changes after i review them review drawings again choose materials etc Make 1st prototype test prototype redesign if needed hopefully test data will allow a reduction in cost make final prototype final testing get ISO approval arrange GB numbers tooling for batch production make the Gb happen
It’s not going to happen in a few weeks, any product I arrange should follow the above. I don't just send off parts and expect the company to make a final product; I get involved in the design & tests but trust their guidance. The last thing we want to happen is a recall. I will keep everyone upto date in this thread until the GB stage is ready.

Vibratechnics mounts are excellent, i have front, rear and gearbox mounts on my golf, they make a big difference to the feel of the front end of the car.

I'll be taking out my engine and gearbox in the next month or so and then testing come Feb/March if you need any extra testing bearing in mind i'll be harder on this part than most road going coupes TJ.
