Hi all, new and first post arranged a trip to the ring next year was going to take my old 600 bike but been offered a 20v turbo..
Are these engines really as easy to tune to the 300 bhp mark? with chip, turbo , intercooler??
Also and most importantly I intend removing all the seats, electric window motors, carpets, door cards any of the dash that I can to remove excess weight. Any idea on how low I can get the 1310kg kerb weight down too.
Many thanks
Jools

May be worth PMing Sparco on here - he races one on a regular basis.
Also quite a few of the guys track their coops so someone should be along shortly.
With regards to tuning, 300 bhp is achievable with the right kit and a healthy base engine - don't forget brakes and suspension!
Oh and welcome to the forum'

i went to the ring in july!!
the coupe was around 300bhpish and done well there! surprised a few people!
300bhp is a good power output for the coupe providing you do all the relevant bits, clutch, brakes ect!!

You're on a nice little track, I would do the same if i had a spare 20VT.. A mate made glassfibre doors (MUCH lighter..) and hood for his Coupe. Lots of weight to be saved.. Engine will reach 300hp easily with a slightly bigger turbo, exaust and IC. Flea here does a nice mapping. Same here, were there week 29 in july. Did Nordschleife (7laps) and GP-track (20min.), very fun indeed.

1310 is the "book" weight, which probably means a non-aricon car, with no oils, fluids or fuel - ie a 'dry' weight
When I race mine, I strip it quite severely - I reckon around 125 - 150kg comes out of it
However, while it was fully stripped, I weighed it at the local weighbridge - 1280kg (with 3/4 of a tank of fuel)
There's no way that a standard car is 1310kg - more like 1400-1450, or around 1500 with a driver so you going on a diet for the next totb nigel??

so you going on a diet for the next totb nigel?? It occurred to me that it would probably be a good way to go faster, but I'm already a svelte 12st anyway, so perhaps not actually, despite my maturing years, I still like my crisps and chocolate, AND I can't be bothered with keeping fit, so there's little chance of losing any weight, ever. Its far easier to make up for it by adding a bit of octane booster and turning up the boost

Just dump everything that you dont need in the car out of it,even the heater box goes,as that alone weighs over 12 kilos.
