Right all, have just fitted some lovely 17' rims with 205/40/17 tyres (these came attached and aren't what I'd normally run ... but hey ho waste not want not etc.) anyway, recommendations for tyre pressures please.. have started with 36psi front 34psi rear... Doesn't feel like they've got much grip although the ride is surprisingly better.. Probably something to do with the rim's being half the weight of the std fiat ones (well 3/4's anyway)
Cheers Tim

The lack of grip is probably down to the type of rubber that is fitted. What make/model are the tyres?

He He, I did this with my last fronts too. laugh Speedo was showing 80mph in third gear whilst chained to a Thomson World of Furniture truck. Great fun!
Remember and close the heater vents tho, I had to bail out cause I couldn't breath for the smoke.
Don't think I would subject my car to this again, but it was certainly fun at the time. Especially when the Arnold Clarks next to the workshop dissappeared in a cloud of tyre smoke. laugh

I've run on 17s for many years - I tend to run between 36 - 38 on the fronts and 30 - 32 on the rears

I run them slightly softer than the 16s, as the sidewalls will be slightly stiffer - at the full 39/32, I find the ride a bit firm (althought it also becomes very precise with the proper pressures)

I'd agree with the above - if you're experiencing poor grip, it will probably be down to the quality of the tyre, not the size

Yeah, the rubber is pretty useless compared to the fk452's I had on the 16's.. Or the p-zero rosso's on the missus's alfa... But since they came with nearly new tyre's and christmas is nearly upon us I'll live with spinning them out of roundabouts for now.. Thanks Nigel... I leave the fronts at 36psi but drop the rears down from 34psi to 32 psi.

Cheers tim
