i just picked up some alloys which will fit my coupe 16vt with wobble bolts but have standard alloys which will be fine - when painted.... Wat does everyone think about how the standard alloys will perform on the track or should i put the 17s on for extra grip and traction. and extra weight

If the 17" wheels are heavier, they will have an adverse affect on handling - this *might* be balanced out by the stiffer sidewalls you will get with lower profile tyres, but its unlikely
Decent tyres on the 16" alloys will definitely out-perform budget tyres on the bigger wheel
You could do with finding out the weight difference

Its all about quality rubber, whichever wheels you use. Decent tyres outweigh any benefit you'll notice by a 1" different size wheel
TBH if it was me i'd rather use the standard wheels with decent tyres on track, where you'll be pushing the car harder, rather than be using wobblies on 17's
