Is it just the compressor side of the turbo that is different on a ball bearing turbo and the exhaust housing is the same as any?
Reason I ask is that a t3/t4 ballbearing turbo in need of rebuild has come up for sale and I was hoping to use the compressor side of it in conjuction with my old ar48 exhaust housing?
What would be the benefits of this if any?

Nick

In comparison to my journal bearing t3 super 60..??
Do spool up characteristics change?
Basically want to know if I can mate the ballbearing compressor side to my standard exhaust housing that i'm currently running?

Old journal bearing T3 or T4 turbos are also available as ball bearing units now. The only difference is the bearing core. These are designed to be direct replacement for journal bearing cores so you can upgrade them. But that done not mean the one you have found will definately fit your turbine housing. There are many OE spec housings made different to the generic ones.

It makes no sence to buy a ballbearing turbo that needs a rebuild. you may as well buy a replacement ball bearing core for your turbo. Or soem sort of upgrade T3/4 to fit your turbine housing.

Hi Nick

you will need a garrett T-series ball bearing core (original housings can be mated to fit) You'll find them on ATP turbo for example.
While you're upgrading put on a real turbo, a T34 for example.

I'm running some sort of a T3 TO4E trim50 turbo on double ball bearings on my car.
