Lots of things seem to be going wrong for a few of us right now,The joys of owning a coop i guess!

I think I spent 20 mins this morning at 6am trying open a door on my Coop grr . I plipped my remote and pulled the handle to find that the door had frozen shut,no surprise there then. After pouring loads of warm water around the door seal and pressing against the frame to try and crush any ice holding the door it still wouldn't budge.

I was getting a bit worried by this time as I was starting to run late for a diagnostics course I was going to in Carlisle and I didn't want to be rushing down the road due to the conditions. As a bit of a desperate measure I tried locking and unlocking the doors again only to find that the door must have re-locked again the first time I pressed the remote and I never noticed it,I pulled on the door handle and it opened straight away rolleyes .

I'll need to watch out for that one again in future.

Never fear guys, my GTV is exactly the same, frozen locks and a semi-frozen handbrake, so it's not an exclusive Fiat problem smile

My 14 year old Peuegot however, no issue at all! I wonder what makes Italian locks so susceptible to cold weather?

Lol, the GTV's are probably worse, as they only have a push button lock and no handle as such, to pull on.

I must say, that the Coupe is the worse car I've ever owned in my life for freezing up grr

Got to my destination and tried to lock it back up and now the Coop decides that its central locking isnt going to work and i cant get key into lock!!

Managed to get car locked up then couldnt get back in drivers door when i got back so comedy climb in via passenger side! Who says Coops arent fun eh!!

Mine driver's door lock froze open today-in the garage! I've just ordered some graphite grease £4.30 from ebay, WD40 does the trick but is too thin and will wash all the grease out of the lock.

I nick the wife's hair dryer and use it on the locks and door edges to release them. Always say I'll WD40 the locks and silicone the door seals before the weather gets bad but it never happens.

BTW, I'd be wary of pouring hot water around. Once it hits metal it will get cold very quick and if it freezes inside before it dries it could be a much harder job to free it up next time.

well this is my first winter with the coop and not having had any issues with it till this lunchtime when I wanted to go somewhere.

Can't open the doors except for the boot, de-ice the door frame and handle area, pour warm water (over both doors that is) .. nothing, get annoyed .. spray some more De-Icer, still nothing, no give on the door at all .. decide not to risk breaking the door/lock mechanism trying to get in.

Get in a huff, put the car cover on it and go back inside make a cup of tea.

wife thinks its hillarious, 'i've never known a car to be that bad before'.

sit down, still in a huff, and find this thread on how to solve the problem, read through all replies, done all that, still doesn't work.

pick up Italian Legends magazine and forget about driving the car anywhere today ....

Strange one this morning, I got called out as the door would not shut on the bravo! The lock latch had engaged with the door open and refused to return, so when she went to close the door it just bounced off the latch sick

I should have sorted her car out when I did mine last night, insedently, the coupe has been fine this morning.

Italian cars hey....you would think that it never got a little bit cold over there

I have noticed both cars are turning over with out the infuseasim they normally have

Door locks frozen this morning. Good bit of warm water from the washing up bowl soon sorted that! laugh

ABS light was on all the way to work though - I guess the handbrake cable had frozen?!? Even though I left it in gear without the handbrake on!

It's been mentioned before, but a good blast of 3 in 1 in the keyholes & locks is what you need - over the past 2 days the minimum temp my car has been exposed to is minus 13 and the locks & doors work fine. I just keep re-squirting every 3 or 4 days to keep on top of them.

As for frozen handbrake cables, well, everybody knows to replace them or give them a good greasing before the winter sets in, ignore that and they freeze, simple.

I'd like to add frozen windows!
It's not just the Italians, the VW blew a fuse when I tried to put the wipers on this morning.
Should we start a competion to see who has had the most frozen things this week?
I've had 4, not counting the VW or bits of my anatomy.

My first visit to the forum since the snow and I find that everyone is having the same problems. I had to laugh the other day at having been so stupid to actually use the handbrake.

Rather embarrassingly I got to my car yesterday and the locks were fine but the door was frozen. A little hot water around the door and it opened first time....

Start the car, get busy scraping the ice off the windows.....

Back to the car and the doors frozen again laugh (guess I need some more silicone grease applying)

I chanced upon two colleagues in the carpark a minute ago.

They were breaking into their own car! (A Fiat Bravo). They'd started it and loaded up the boot, shut the boot and all the doors locked!

They did get in eventually with a bit of brute force - and bending the window frame wink

Coupe was frozen solid this morning, even had ice on the inside of all the windows! Had to use a hair dryer to get in to both doors and they had frozen back up by the time I got to work! Managed to get the car locked up but don't like leaving the handbrake off in public carparks!

Mine was fine, Preparation, Preparation, Preparation! New it was going to be a cold one so lubed the locks and door rubbers again. I did however wash the car, and stupidly left the handbrake on frown

Im not going to be going any where for quite some time.....

I'm lucky I keep my Coupe garaged. Although there was one day last winter when I drove the Coupe, (from the garage, having had the handbrake up). Headed of down to the folks. Applied the handbrake, 30 mins later, went to go again and the handbrake was frozen on! It was a particularly freezing day though.

You pour some into the hole where the key goes. Its not really a grease, more of a very very fine powder.
