i have a gt28r 2560 and i am wanting to know what it is that is done to them to make them into the rsr...from what i can find out the r and rs are listed garret models the rsr is a hybrid r....ive been quoted nearly 500 for the rebuild (to rsr spec)including a refurb ..is it possible to buy the bits they change and fit them myself then have whatever needs balancing balanced or maybe someone will know a cheaper option or a cheaper turbo builder..also if someone knows them can they post the specs thanks..

It is a combo of an R and an RS, as you say, but I dont think its going to be cheaper doing it yourself, and youve got all the hassle, plus if anything goes wrong with it, its all down to you, and youll have to sort it out all over again. Im guessing if you send it off to be done, youll get the best job possible, as its what they do for a living, plus you should get some sort of warranty with it, bonus.
Can I ask who is telling you 500 quid, because I need mine reconditioned and that doesnt sound to bad to me?

thanks for that gents ...it was turbo dynamics at £495 + the dreaded vat so thatll take it to nearly 6oo if it had been 495 all in then i might not have baulked at it there must be a cheaper way than that although i dont know enough to know what they change and how much they do but that price is creeping into the realms of a new one!

A brand new RSR from TurboDynamics is £995 + Vat, I called them about it about a month ago. So in comparison its not too bad, still alot of money, obviously. Or you could go in the middle money wise, get a brand new RS for about £800 all in.

ive thought a lot about an rs but the car is just for normal usage no track days or santa podding and im on standard internals and clutch... i think for fun the rsr would be the one i dont want to go 350 and wear things out too quickly! i do like to get that shove when boosting though thats why im not just using the r.. i have also discovered the turbo i was sold as "no play whatsoever low miles unit" has virtually no play if you wiggle the shaft side to side but if you go back and forth theres some and while its off it seems sensible to refurb/upgrade.. i was going to fit it as is untill i was shown the play.. when i went to collect it all i knew was there should be none , not knowing enough about them i thought it was fine, if id known then what i know now!... i paid £450 from a forum member (with vband clamp oil line etc) so itll end up costing me the same if not more than new! but then you live and learn hey? and i dont want to sell it on to someone else who like me wouldnt realise its not as described ..ill just have to shop around and see what i can find price wise for the work to be done, then bite the bullet.. at least the one good thing to come from it is i end up with a better unit than the r ..my glass is always half full
