If fitting an uprated fuel pump is it a must to modify wiring with a separate relay due to extra current draw or is the standard wiring and fuse rating man enough, or just check with a meter for voltage drop and if aint broke dont fix it
Barbz did mine, but I think it is done pretty much as Kev says . He tested my standard pump and that was OK for voltage drop, but when he fitted the Walbro he found that the drop was greater, so did the wiring mod.
It's definitely best to test it when you fit a Walbro, as they do seem to need the wiring upgrade, if my experience is anything to go by.
I have to take the gaz tank out to fix the annoying trouble that I have filling the gaz (it only fills very slowly - it's a pain filling the whole tank!!). So I'm thinking on upgrade the fuel pump in the same job. My car is all standard apart the Gtech1. Do anybody knows if there will be any inconvenient doing so? I've saw that it needs some kind of wiring mod, can someone elucidate this for me? thanks
you can change it without moving the fuel tank but if you are removing the tank anyway it will be an easy job just be careful of the plastic clips that hold the fuel pipes and the big plastic ring that holds the swirl pot in they easy break
As you will have the fuel tank out, I would say it is not difficult to do. I found the fiddley bit was getting the gubbins in and out of the tank when it was in place. The whole job took me about 2 hours so it cant be that difficult. The wiring mod, do it if you need to (check after fitting) or just do it anyhow as for about £10 and 1/2 hours time it may be worth doing all at the same time.
I only changed mine due to the planned mods, if I had of kept the car stanard (plus gtech1) then I would of left the standard pump in.
