Where do you live? When was the accident - some insurers look at 5 years, some (e.g Admiral group) only 3

Have you tried the insurers in the list in this section. Adrian Flux always seem competitive. Otherwise, buy through Quidco and you'll at least get some cash back (I got £40 back with Sheilas Wheels)

Where are you looking for insurance? That does seem very high considering your age / ncb.

Swinton quoted me £750+ as a new customer, my Adrian Flux renewal was only £500. Try them.

If you've not yet try Admiral, Bell & Elephant. Don't forget to add a female ie sister / wife / mother as this usually lowers the policy. You can play with this feature on the Elephant / Bell websites.

try esure, post office, compare the market etc.

i will say though, your address can make a HUGE difference.

no sure on your location so i cant comment, but i moved a few years ago ( a distance of about 4 miles, and then kept car in a locked garage instead of on the driveway) and my premium went up nearly £180! shocked

Has the accident claim been settled and finalised yet?

If not your quotes will be inflated until it is settled and you come out as the innocent party.

Had the same problem before its because of the accident. Even though its not ur fault they say statistically youll have another in the next two years. I compared quotes with or without the not fault accident and it was costing 2-£300 more. Very unfair when its a non fault accident.

Not all insurers penalise non fault, the Admiral group certainly do as I have had the same grief in the past. Perhaps try Aviva, Direct Line, Privilege, More Than etc - the big companies who may not be on the price comparison sites smile

What did Flux and Greenlight say?

steve i had good quotes from first alternative (part of esure) and direct line despite having 2 accidents in 2 years, both none blame to me.

you're paying about twice as much as me so something is wrong there, although i acknowledge i am ancient....

Go on confused dot com. I did last year and got a great deal off 'More than' They were third in the list but were the first company i had heard of. Folk always say remaining with the same insurer year after year costs more as they sneakily increase your premium but this year 'More Than' have offered me a 20% loyalty bonus bringing it down to £230.00 cool

Sounds a good deal, but what do you get if the worse happens and you total it?
Haggerty (see above) comes with an agreed value

Flux have been brilliant for me.

I've just had a second car insured with them, I told them I didn't want to cancel my cover with them to release the NCB (used on the coop) but as the Volvo seems to be more expensive to insure I needed the NCB or a damn good quote.

They kept the policy on the coop using my full no claims as is and found a company to give me a hugely discount quote for the Volvo on the strength of that no claims.

The quote they gave me on the Volvo was just £80 more than the cheapest quote I'd found online using my FNCB!

So both cars insured fully comp for a tad over £700 with all the bells and whistles and just £150 excess on each, no limited mileage. Admiral multicar got nowhere near that!

It's renewal time on the coop in 3 months, we'll see what the renewal figure is like.

Did you declare your mods to Flux? When I got my quote with them last year it was stupid, £700 plus, I'm 40 this year, full NCB, no points etc etc. She then said to me that if it was modified the quote would be more favourable as that is their core business, so I told her I'd fit a K&N, asked her to re-run the quote and it halved the quote, actually, more than halved it!!

Oh, and being a member here knocked the second quote down a little also, I forgot to mention it the first time round, shame on me!

Insurance annoys me, I can remember when it was pretty much the norm to go TPFT if your car was less than a couple of grand, now the quotes can be higher than fully Comp!

That Haggerty lot sound like good eggs as well, agreed value is the way to go if you can. I'll be giving them a call when the coop is up for renewal in a few months.
