Wheel Spacers With Standard Wheels #977537

Hi, I'm liking the idea of widening my Coupe's track, so I'm thinking about wheel spacers.
I'm using standard 20vt wheels with Toyo T1-Rs in 205/50/16, how much is a reasonable amount to widen it? 10mm? 20mm?
Also, would I get more benefit from doing the front and rear, or just the rear?
I'm running on Eibach springs, lowered by approximately 35mm, standard dampers.
Thanks.

I wouldn't bother, it'll affect the scrub radius on the front and make the car bad to drive. The rear will end up eating through wheel bearings and stub axles.

As a side note you would need hub-centric spacers and either new bolts or a stud conversion if you were to do it, at least a couple of hundred pounds to do properly. Plus the wheels would more than likely catch the body work.

There was a group buy a few years ago of spacers to widen the track by 10mm.
There will be a fair few guys running these as it was quite a large group buy.

As for spacers eating bearings, two years of running my 22mm spacers and 18" alloys with no bearing noise or wear to report.

It depends on the offset. On the standard wheels I don't think it'd be a good idea taking the et to 20

Matt,

there are a good few people on here running spacers with no problems at all. I'm one of them and have had no issues. And the roads are harsh to say the least up here!

Im not saying spacers don't bugger things up, but if done correctly and not stupidly, I wouldn't expect any problems.

To fit spacers with the idea of improving handling? I would not bother, fiat spent a lot in R&D to get the suspension to a happy medium. The only reason I run with them is I have wheels that simply will not fit with out them

3mm whell spcers can be fitted with standard bolts and still allow the wheel to sit on the spigot. I doubt you would see any improvment in handling. Another issue with spacers is many are multifit which in reality means very little metal. This reduces the ability for the brakes to dissipate heat into the wheels.

Ran 15mm spacers on mine iirc... no probs running for a couple of years....

Good mod makes the car handle and look better.

Added a 13mm spacer almost a year ago to upsize from our standard 16 to a 17. Hubcentric. So, far so good. Have been on track in 3 occassions, the wheels still intact tongue
