My 19yo sister takes her driving test in a couple of weeks and is looking to buy a £1500 1.2 clio for her first car. The cheapest quote she has had is £1670 TPFT from Quinn by using the comparison sites.
Does anybody know of any insurance companies who specialize in young, inexperienced drivers? I know the 1st years insurance is always expensive, but surely she should be able to get below £1500?

From what I've heard, getting a parent on the policy as a named driver helps the premium a lot. Your sister must remain the main driver of course.

If you go on the net, there seems to be endless companies, but as for the best deal that meets your needs may be a pains taking event. Ive heard things about 4youngdrivers.co.uk Best of luck...
I'm an old git & happy with it,most of the time

What about the "women only" insurers like Sheilas Wheels or Diamond (I dk if they cover youngsters). Get the quotes through quidco if possible and you could get some cashback. Can add male named drivers if necessary, add mum or dad

Hi Dan, My Daughter went with Tesco insurance for her first car when she passed her test at 19, her car was a Fiat Seicento Sporting. She was at Uni at the time, I was paying £60 a month for her. I'd shop around, must get cheaper than that for a Girl plus stick you on as a named driver. John

My younger brothers in the same boat. Hes 19 and trying to get insurance on a 1.2 nova til his polos done. Cheapest so for him 3rd party was about £1600.
Done a quote yesterday in my name i have 5 years NCB and am 25 with him a named driver came back as £600. Without my NCB's around the £1000 mark.
Best bet for her would be a named driver on a policy after a year some companies accept this as a years no claims.

As long as she isn't the main driver of the car or you get into the realms of 'fronting' - of which insurance companies take a pretty dim view

Perhaps this is a Direct Line thing, not the case for most insurers I have to say I have never found DL competitive for me...maybe I am too old and have NCB

Thanks. I'll try the insurance companies mentioned
As for putting a parent on the policy. There was a burglary at my Mums house last year and they took her keys and her BMW, so I doubt adding her as a named driver will help. I will try adding her and some others to see though.
I'm not sure if anybody will be willing to have her as a named driver on their policy to be honest. It's a big risk just to save a few quid.

If you have a clean insurance history, stick yourself down as a named driver Even though we are both ancient, my brother and I are on each others' policies and both seem to bring the other one down in price

I have 10 years NCB so I will put myself as a named driver and see if it makes any difference

4youngdrivers had Quinn as the cheapest still but was £1867! With me as a named driver the quote was exactly the same to the penny. No change at all.

Tried confused, Meerkat, Goo... Compare, Tesco direct.
All had Quinn as the cheapest but Tesco was cheapest by £25 with the same. Details for some reason?

I know it's a bit late, but if you're still interested getting a classic car (anything older than 15 years) can work. I know people paying 300 quid for there first years insurance, fully comp, breakdown cover through Footman James. He's a 17 year old male as well - unfortunately it's on an Austin A40 and good luck getting her into one of those Still worth ringing up with a few older cars that she does like, it can save you good money Same goes for motorbikes btw

I'm not that sure on the details actually, that does make it less attractive, still very good prices for young drivers though

Quinn were the cheapest for me when I got my first car at the age of 20, I paid £770 TPFT on a 1.1 Fiesta.

One of the main provisos of a 'classic car' policy as I understand it is that it has to be your second car...ie you already have a normal policy on a 'main' car.
