I should be fitting my Pace SMIC soon and I'm wondering if there would be any loss of performance if I have to leave the funnel off.

The reason for possibly leaving the funnel off is that I have a Pro Alloy radiator installed and my mate (Kelv27,who already has a Pace SMIC fitted) found that he couldn't fit his Pro Alloy radiator due to the SMIC frown . So I'm wondering if removing the plastic funnel would give me some extra room without negating any gains to be had from the larger intercooler.

Any thoughts?

I'm sure copious amounts of trimming will see it fit ok.

Baz..As Matt mentioned, you'll need to hack off alot of one corner for it to 'possibly' fit. If you remove the funnel, you might get the clearance..but as far as I can remember it will still be very close. I'm just worried the rad and smic will still rub/knock with the cars movement.

If you already have the rad installed, its probably easier to get the smic in..rather than the other way around.

I suspect it's the actual IC that's touching that rad rather than the funnel. I remember it rubbed even the std rad hose a bit.
However, I'm positive the funnel is very important for the IC function. I had less boost without it last summer (the ECU reduced boost due to air too hot).

Now that you mentioned it Per, i remember seeing one of the rad hoses showing signs of rubbing too..but its not from the standard smic. The rubbing was from one end of the rad fan (the metal tab where the screw threads in to the rad)

I keep looking at the space between the radiator and the standard SMIC and think that if I was to remove the plastic brackets of the funnel on that side then it should fit.

I guess there's only going to be one way to find out laugh ,thanks for the input guys thumb .
