After testing the prototype there has been some fitting issues raised. We have agreed that it would be best to take a car upto Vibra Technics for the second prototype. My car is currently off the road so I will be unable to travel. Is there anyone local to Corby (NN17 4SW) and willing to spend a few hours to get this mount sorted? I don’t expect this to happen until after the new year. If so PM me.

UPDATE:

Spent the morning at Vibra Technics today. (Many thanks to Steve_G for donating his car and time for testing.) We managed to fit the prototype pictured above and test drive the car. The knocking is completely eliminated on hard launches and breaking. We decided on what needs changing for the final production prototype to be made. The other two mounts were also checked and ready for prototyping.

The tooling costs and prices will be with me very soon and since we are happy with the mount it will be ready for the group buy stage very soon. We will also give the option of two stiffness’s one for fast road use and one for competition use. The competition one will be double the stiffness of the fast road and is recommended for regular track days/racing. This mount is far superior to just adding a thicker plate to the OE mount as it’s the rubber design in the OE mount that is also floored. This custom mount will be of very high quality.

Look forward to the groupbuy TurboJ, my rear mount has been knocking for a while and have got a track day coming up soon.
Was going to buy a oem one for the time being but think i will wait if this is nearly done.

Thanks for R&D into this,
Dan.

Only just found this thread. My rear one was knackered around august last year so I replaced it with a new one. I modified my drivers side one around the same time.

Basically I got an old mount with totally shot rubber bits. Removed all the remains of the rubber. Welded a flat plate onto each side of the mount and cut a ~50mm hole in each one end and pushed through a piece of steel tube then welded it in place. Then I got a universal bush (that was around 50mm too) and pressed it into the centre hole.

Haven't got any pics, it wasn't pretty but its been ok for the last 6 months. Guess I should remove it to see what condition its in laugh

Chris

Stick me down for one when the time comes (just in case I don't see the GB for some reason...), mine's had it and was on the verge of buying a new standard one.

Can anyone confirm which other models i.e 16V, 16VT & 20V share the three main mounts as the 20VT.

Also does anyone have a spare OE left gearbox mount like the one Begbie posted earlier and is willing to donate for prototyping?

Nobby are you able to post the mount on the right to Vibra Technics? We already have the one on the left. This way we can do a package deal on all three mounts for the GB if need be.

Yeh sure, whats the address for them. there is a tiny bit of damage to the very top piece (one of the small notches has broken off) but they are otherwise fine.

UPDATE:
The gearbox mount has been finalised and tested and a test sample will be sent out for fitment and confirmation.

The engine side mount has been designed and the prototype is being made.

The side gearbox mount was received yesterday (thanks Nobby) and is being designed later today.

I should expect some news buy mid next week as to pricing for the GB (if all goes to plan).

Ok guys the ball is nearly rolling. Below is a picture of the final prototype.

click to enlarge click to enlarge

The final rear mount for batch production will have smooth radii on the edges and a 1.25 internal thread. I can announce that the Group Buy price for this mount will be:

£50 + VAT + £7.50 UK postage = £66.25 for the fast road mount
£55 + VAT + £7.50 UK postage = £72.13 for the competition mount

Vibra Technics are also offering a fitting service of £10 for anyone who wishes to drive to them. (Obviously waving the £7.50 postage charge.)

The final prototype and the other two prototypes will be send out to me for testing next week so I will not be taken any orders until all three mounts have been personally tested and I am happy.

More details including overseas postage will be in the GB thread once I open it.

To get the GB price we will need a minimal order of 25 which I’m sure is easily achievable considering the value for money.

The one pictured is the main one at the rear bolted to the subframe, which is the problematic one. But J is also getting the rest made up as well. As far as i'm aware this will be the first to be put into production and very soon

Just to confirm, the topic is (originally) about this mount?

I get knocking/vibration when reversing, think it is the pictured mount gone soft?
