Whats wrong with this picture?



Other than the intercooler pipes anybody know what and why?

I spot two things, and id really like to know why...

The horn and slam panel are not rusty

The car has an le grill on, but no red rocker cover or strut brace.

That is if its an le an not just a turbo with the le grill.

(saying that i think if i had an le i would polish the rocker cover instead of having it red)

relays on the washer bottle are missing and the induction box (oem) is missing

Funny coloured exhaust manifold?

Is it me or does that left (looking at pic) suspension mount look like its at a funny angle?

Well... why does it have an aircon compressor and no control unit on top of the washer bottle? And where is that coolent hose going from the expansion tank???

Why? Why? Why? #also where are the bolts on the bracket that hold the bumper carriers on?

My 1999 Plus hasn't got the gubbins on top of the washer bottle but my 1999 20VT did have!? Maybe the difference is whether the car had air-con as an option (as I believe "normal" 20VT's did) or as standard factory-fit? (i.e. Plus' & LE's)

Possibly ultimately to where it should go but "up & over" rather than "down & under" and without the small pipe tee-d off to just under the rocker cover and the larger one that joins the head just above the manifold/turbo heat-shield

AND there's an air-con pipe missing from the compressor & along the top of the rad. Looks like the air-con has been "disabled" at some point.

The pipe from the expansion tank should got to the engine block shouldnt it?

The pipe from the tank should go to the aircond compressor..then to the water rail... IIRC

No it connects to a small metal pipe then the engine block for cars with AC or straight to the engine block if not.

maybe there somewhere else on the later cars with the extra pipe from the expansion tank to the middle of the engine where the bleed screw normally is?

Its from the aircond comp to the metal pipe to a rubber pipe that goes to the water rail. The water rail connects to the block.

Whether or not it has aicond, it still goes to the water rail.

Sorry i was counting the water rail as part of the block, on the orignal pic i posted it just goes off to the right somewhere...

I've always assumed they're the ones in the top-right hand corner of the engine bay, to the right of the brake fluid reservoir

Plus these are missing...

Just been out and looked under my bonnet and yes, the 1" dia pipe from the header tank goes to the block (i.e. the pipe just above the heat-shield) and no further, so where the one on your picture goes is a mystery!

If my memory serves me right, that is Nathens ( NathR) old coupe.

The aircon compresser is not a fiat original,
it was a aftermarket one, which may explain a few things.

Yup pretty sure the car is NathR's old one.

It was broken for parts last year i believe.

It is his old car and will be for sale soon

Just logged back onto the forum after not being able to log in for months then i gave up!

The aircon compressor is aftermarket as far as i was aware. It didnt have the climate control switches in the dash either it was either on or off but you could control the temperature by using the heater setting.

It was a contraption and a half, whoever paid to have it fitted must have paid a fair whack for it!

I did break the car for parts unfortunately but im glad to say that i sold the complete body to Solo Italia who have now rebuilt her and i think it is for sale now... tempted....!
